Lillie Langtry Surges For Featured Allowance Win Saturday At Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK– MARCH 30, 2024–Lillie Langtry was a British socialite actress from the late 1800s who was known for her beauty and charm; the American Quarter Horse lived up to that name on Saturday night, winning the featured allowance at Remington Park with a beautiful late move.

Prior to Saturday night, Lillie Langtry, a 5-year-old mare by Apollitical Blood, out of the Red Storm Cat mare Martinis N Bikinis, had her troubles winning at Remington Park and at the distance of 350 yards. She entered the evening only 1-for-14 in Oklahoma City and only 1-for-7 at the distance. It was not a problem in either category on this night.

Jockey Jesus Salazar took hold of his mount and asked her to run from the outside 7-post and she responded in kind, flying past the front-runners from the early going, even-money favorite AJ Fast Corona and Its My Favorite (8-1) to get up for the win by a neck.

She was sent off at 7-2 odds and stopped the timer in :17.773 over the fast track for an 87 speed-index. AJ Fast Corona held on for second and AJ Brazilian Gift (9-2) finished third, another length behind. Its My Favorite faded to fifth after getting out early.

The win was the third of the night for trainer Dee Keener, who is in second in the trainer standings with 11 wins. Only Matt Whitekiller is ahead of Keener with his 13 scores for the season.

Lillie Langtry paid $9.20 to win, $3.80 to place, and $2.60 to show for owners Kelly Yother Equine of Culer City, Calif. She was bred in Oklahoma by Garvan Kelly, Lloyd Yother and Nancy Yearsley. The mare earned $17,667 from the $30,350 purse and improved lifetime to 23 starts, three wins, four seconds and three thirds for a bankroll of $81,590.

The last time Lillie Langtry won at Remington Park was May 6, 2023, and it was at 400 yards. She somehow figured out the formula on Saturday night to win again here and at 350 yards.

There is no Remington Park racing on Easter. The action returns in April with a four-day week of racing Thursday through Sunday, April 4-7. The first race nightly is 6pm with racing Sunday afternoon at 4pm. All times are Central.
