Trainer Matthew Fales Saddles Stakes Double on Sunday Card at Turf Paradise

PHOENIX, AZ—NOVEMBER 1, 2015—Trainer Matthew Fales saddled the AQRA Futurity winner and the Desert Classic Derby winner on Sunday's race card at Turf Paradise. Both stakes winners were sired by the Mr Jess Perry son Dejon, a brother to two-time AQHA Racing Champion Noconi.

Rockn Cowboy Best In AQRA Futurity

Making just his fourth career start Rockn Cowboy posted a half-length victory in the $26,125 AQRA Futurity getting a stakes double for trainer Matthew Fales on Sunday afternoon at Turf Paradise.

Bounty dash and Fj Blackdiamond who finished second and third were both disqualified for interference and placed fifth and 10th respectively. Alazan de Los Pobres and Kedahuefana were moved into the place and show spots.

Racing for owner/breeders S. Pierce and Larry Stark, Rockn Cowboy completed the 350 yards into a 7 mph headwind in :18.044 seconds to pocket the first place check worth $13,063. Jorge Bourdieu had the riding call.

The gelded son of Dejon is out of the A Gallant Effort mare Nn Rock N Effort. His record stands at (4) 2-1-0 with $17,614 banked this year.

Alazan de Los Pobres races for owner/breeder Cesar Dabdoub and trainer Omar Lorta. The Heza Motor Scooter colt is out of Real Fantacia, by Real Easy Jet. Ridden by Ronald Richard, the chestnut colt earned $5,225.

Kedahuerfana, also a two-year-old by Heza Motor Scooter, races for owner Veronica Pelayo and trainer Ely Mendoza. Eduardo Campos bred the bay filly from the Corona Cocktail mare Kedacorona. She picked up $2,612 for her effort.

Completing the official order of finish were Bufddd, Bounty Dash, Yn Paloma, Hildas Pearl, G P Red John, Hot Rod Hart and Fj Blackdiamond.

Jess A Cowboy Dominates Desert Classic Derby

Ridden by jockey Vince Guerra, Desert Cowboy broke on top and drew clear by 1 ¼ lengths over stablemate See Yah Later to win the $18,763 Desert Classic Derby Sunday afternoon at Turf Paradise. Magical Righter finished three-quarters back in the show position.

Saddled by trainer Matthew Fales, Desert Cowboy completed the 350 yards in :17.812 seconds, into a 7 mph headwind to earn a 93-speed index. It was the third career win for the Dejon gelding and the $9,381 winners' purse boosted the multiple stakes winner's earnings to nearly $40,000.

Racing for owner Larry Stark, the sorrel gelding is an Arizona homebred for himself and Phyllis Stark from the Canth mare Secret Return. His record stands at (10) 3-3-2.

Also a stakes winner, stablemate See Yah Later picked up $3,753 for owner/breeders Ralph and Carolyn Fales. Matthew Fales saddled the Azyoucansee filly from the Count Corona mare Loves What Counts. Ridden by Jorge Bourdieu the brown filly pocketed $3,753 to boost her earnings to $22,011.

Magical Righter, who was also a futurity winner last season at Turf Paradise, races for owner Amanda Casper and trainer Benito Vega. David Reyes-Frisby rode the Righter filly out of Bf Fantastic Dream, by Mr Eye Opener. Bred by Jose Holguin, the brown miss has earned $48,259.

Completing the official order of finish were Steadfast, Rebs A Rippin, Jess A Blue Tac, For de Marzo and Sgs Victoria. Late Dejeuner was scratched.
