CLAREMORE, OK—NOVEMBER 14, 2015—Trainer Kevin Willis saddled First Sweet Midnite to a neck victory over Brave Heart Won in the $310,000 Black Gold 440 Futurity Championship(RG3) Saturday afternoon at Will Rogers Downs. Train Story finished a head behind for third.
Ridden by jockey Jimmy Brooks, First Sweet Midnite covered the 440 yards in a quick :21.656 seconds to earn a 102 speed index into the 10 mph crosswind. Owned by Bret Carpenter the Sweet First Down gelding got his third win from just five starts this season. The $124,000 winner's purse brought the colt's seasonal mark to $134,870.
Dustin and Rusty Carpenter bred First Sweet Midnite in Oklahoma from the Special Leader mare Midnite Soiree.
Champion jockey G.R. Carter, Jr. rode Brave Heart Won to his second place effort for owners Michael Taylor and Dwayne Saucier. Taylor conditions the gelded son of leading second crop sire Apollitical Jess from the Fols Gold mare Fols Zookie Cookie. Luis Miguel Albores Gleason is the bred the earner of $52,700.
Still a maiden in four starts, Train Story picked up $34,100 for finishing third. Also trained by Kevin Willis, the James Sills owned-and-bred son of Freighttrain B earned $34,100 for third. Daniel Torres was aboard the gelding out of Perry Story, by Mr Jess Perry.
Boogies Special Dash, Shaken Pappasito, Id Sooner Rush, Fast Ferarri, Highway, Candys Little Wagon and Country Club Chick completed the field.
