LOS ALAMITOS RACE COURSE, CYPRESS, CA–OCTOBER 6, 2025–For the second straight year, the Los Alamitos Equine Sale posted record figures thanks to a tremendous catalog that included 16 yearlings that sold for at least $100,000 each led by a Burns Ranch-bred colt from the legendary cross of Favorite Cartel and Remember Me Rose, who Rosenthal Ranch purchased for a sale topping price of $730,000.
This year’s average yearling sale price of $48,121 represented a 7.7% increase from the previous record average yearling sale price of $44,876 set last year. A total of 142 yearlings were sold at the 2025 Los Alamitos Equine Sale for a gross figure of $6,833,200.

SUNLAND PARK, NM—OCTOBER 4, 2025—Gaming and Leisure Properties Inc. (GLPI), a Pennsylvania-based real estate investment trust, has announced it will purchase the real estate assets of Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino for $183.75 million.
The deal is scheduled to close on October 15, pending final approvals, and will mark GLPI’s second property in New Mexico. The company already owns Zia Park Casino Hotel and Racetrack in Hobbs.

ROCK SPRINGS, WY–OCTOBER 3, 2025–The 2025 Sweetwater Downs horse racing meet concluded on Sunday with increased attendance, handle, and horsemen participation.
Larger on-track crowds contributed to a 9.57 percent increase in wagering at the Rock Springs oval, while all-sources handle, which includes in-state and out-of-state wagering sites, rose 99.06 percent.
"In my 15 years as a partner in Wyoming Horse Racing LLC (WHR), this season at Sweetwater Downs has to be one of our best," remarked Sweetwater Downs President Eugene Joyce. "The success of our Wyoming Horse Racing Off Track Betting Facilities (OTBs) helped us boost purses 40 percent this season. Over the 18-day meeting, we distributed $1,950,700 in purse money. The season will cover 46 days of racing and finish with a dozen stake races on the Million Night card on December 20. Numerous stake races and fun nights for families are also scheduled.
Trainer Kenneth Roberts, Sr., will bring a full stable to the backside to defend his back-to-back training titles. The Roberts, Sr. contingent won 20 races to take the 2024 title. ODESSA, TX–SEPTEMBER 28, 2025–Herb Graham, a respected West Texas horseman and one of the pioneers in Quarter Horse and Paint racing, passed away on September 25, 2025. He was born May 15, 1938, in Eunice, New Mexico, and over the course of his 87 years left a lasting imprint not only on the racing industry but also on business, music, and community life.

BRYAN, TX–SEPTEMBER 28, 2025—The Quarter Horse racing and breeding industry lost a great horseman with the passing of James “Jim” M. Eller Jr., who died on Friday, September 26, 2025. He was 93. Eller leaves a legacy in both the cattle and quarter horse racing industries.
