GRANDE PRAIRIE, TX–AUGUST 18, 2025–The Texas Racing Commission (TXRC) has announced that all owners, trainers, and jockeys must hold a current license prior to the entry of their horses.
Participants are encouraged to verify if fingerprints are required for their license renewal, as this process may extend turnaround times. Trainers should work closely with their owners to confirm that licenses are active and not set to expire during the meet.

LOS ALAMITOS, CA–AUGUST 12, 2025–James Dreyer, a Champion of Champions winning jockey and one of the best Quarter Horse riders during Los Alamitos' golden era of jockeys in the 1960s and '70s, passed away on Monday, August 11, after an illness. He was 82.
Born February 26, 1943, Dreyer was from Scranton, Pennsylvania. He enjoyed an outstanding 18-year riding career at Los Alamitos, winning 535 Quarter Horse races and 46 stakes races at the Orange County oval.

PHOENIX, AZ–AUGUST 9, 2025–California horse owner and real estate developer Gary Hartunian could soon be taking over as the operator of Turf Paradise in Phoenix, Ariz., it was revealed during a special online meeting of the Arizona Racing Commission on Thursday.
Turf Paradise owner Jerry Simms, who during the meeting was given conditional approval for a three-year permit to operate a race meet – contingent on completion by Oct. 1 of required repairs in the stable area and the rails on both the main dirt track and turf course – at first did not identify the potential new operator by name but said the person planned to lease the track for two years, then build a new track on a “different piece of property.” It is believed the network of OTBs run by Turf Paradise would be part ...
