ELGIN, TX–NOVEMBER 15, 2022–Scott Sherwood, Director of Racing for the Texas Quarter Horse Association (TQHA), released the following TQHA News and Notes today.

2023 TQHA Stallion Auction:

Starts December 1, 2022 and closes at NOON on January 12, 2023. As of now there are over 90 stallions that you can bid on including FOUR stallions that are in the top 10 sires of money earners for 2022.

The list also includes numerous sires of Quarter Horse champions as well as many up and coming new sires.

The entire auction is done online so to see what sires are included in this year’s auction go to https://tqhastallionauction.com/ and click on the box in the upper right hand corner that says “Click For Race Horse Auction”.

NOTE…If you are looking at this site on your phone once you click on the box your screen may not change but if you scroll down you will see the stallions. Be sure and check the site from time to time as new stallions are being added all the time.

2023 Texas Classic Futurity and Derby:

Nominations for the 2023 Texas Classic Futurity G-1 and Texas Classic Derby G-1 are due on January 15, 2023. Nomination blanks can be found on the TQHA Website, www.tqha.com under the Racing tab, Texas Classic Races tab. Note that for 2023 there are separate nomination blanks for the Futurity and the Derby.

2023 TQHA Sale Futurity:

The nominations list for the 2023 TQHA Sale Futurity is now posted online at www.tqha.com under the Racing tab, TQHA Sale Futurity tab. 188 horses paid the initial nomination payment. The next payment of $500 is due on or before December 1, 2022. If you did not make the initial nomination payment you can late nominate on or before December 1, 2022, with a payment of $1,500.

Important Yearling and Broodmare Accreditation Deadlines:

Don’t forget to get your yearlings and in-foal broodmares that are expected to foal in Texas accredited before December 31, 2022. If your yearlings (foals of 2021) are not accredited before December 31, 2022, the fee goes from $100 to $500!! If your in-foal broodmares are not accredited by December 31, 2022, then you will miss out on breeders awards for their 2023 foals.

Unnamed Accredited Horses:

If you have a yearling/weanling that you accredited without papers please be sure and send those papers in to us to be stamped and so we can also get the name in our system so you don’t miss out on any owner/breeder/stallion awards that may be coming your way.
