Undefeated Iowa Bred 2YO Tyler’s Tribe, With Quarter Horse Connections, Gear Up For Friday’s $100,00

ALTOONA, IA—NOVEMBER 2, 2022—The long-awaited day is this week for locally based Tyler’s Tribe, a stakes winner from Prairie Meadows’ 2022 Thoroughbred racing season, and its fanatic following of supporters.

The Iowa-bred two-year-old sensation will take part in Future Stars Friday, the two-year-old stakes bonanza of the two-day 14-race Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky.

The drawing of post positions announced October 31 has Tyler’s Tribe in the number 10 post in a field of 12 juveniles contesting the Grade 1 $1,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint going 5 ½ furlongs and will be carded as Race 6 with an approximate post time set for 2:00 p.m. CDT.

The morning line odds for Tyler’s Tribe were set at 15 to 1. The race will kick off the five Breeders’ Cup races on Friday, November 4 now known as Future Stars Friday with all five races featuring two-year-old Thoroughbreds that are in the early stages of their racing careers and may well provide a couple potential 2023 Kentucky Derby hopefuls to watch next spring leading into next years’ Triple Crown series.

The undefeated two-year-old Tyler’s Tribe (Sharp Azteca-Impazible Woman by Mission Impazible) will continue his run for glory not only on the track but in spirit and accomplishment for his namesake, eight-year-old Tyler Juhl who has battled childhood leukemia and recently announced he is cancer-free.

Juhl has a large following of family and friends including a Facebook fan page of followers also known as “Tyler’s Tribe” that cheer both the boy and Thoroughbred on. The precocious gelding owned by Prairie Meadows Hall of Famer and Quarter Horse owner Tom Lepic and trainer Tim Martin is a perfect five-for-five, including four stakes wins, guided by 2022 Prairie Meadows Leading Thoroughbred Jockey Kylee Jordan and has posted some of the fastest speed figures in the country this year by a juvenile on dirt, but he is unraced on turf, or outside of Iowa (Prairie Meadows) so the horse will face its biggest challenge yet on the racetrack at Keeneland.

Tyler’s Tribe has two timed workouts over the Keeneland turf course since arriving in early October. The first try over the turf course (October 15 going 3 furlongs in :39.80) was a learning experience. His follow up workout this past weekend (October 29 going 3 furlongs in :38.20) showed signs of improvement and handling the surface more confidently.

Tyler (Juhl) is Tom Lepic’s grandson who has enjoyed coming to the races at Prairie Meadows and knowing there’s a horse named after him makes it so much more special to everyone involved. You are sure to see Tyler’s Tribe t-shirts and the large following at Keeneland supporting both the horse and Juhl in his fight against leukemia. In a recent interview on FanDuel TV, Lepic remarked that his grandson was eager to skip school this week to be at Keeneland supporting his favorite horse, but school came first. Juhl is expected to arrive at Keeneland Friday for Tyler’s Tribe’s race.

Everyone at Prairie Meadows and the local racing community wish Tyler’s Tribe and Tyler Juhl all the best for a safe, fun-filled experience at one of the premiere equine sporting events in the world. The two-day championship event will be shown live across, NBC, Peacock, USA Network, and FanDuel TV (formerly TVG). Check local listings for specific programming times.

Fans and patrons in central Iowa can watch and wager at Prairie Meadows this Friday and Saturday on the Breeders’ Cup World Championships!
