Q-RACING JOURNAL—NOVEMBER 2, 2015—The Texas Classic Futurity (G1) is a huge race, and the 16 trials it required to find the top 10 were brimming with talented horses. The $1,151,780 race is scheduled to close Lone Star Park’s meet on November 14.

Fastest qualifier EC Jet One is a homebred racing for Enrique Carrion. The only colt in the field, he is by The Louisiana Cartel and out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Pretty Girl Perry. He was third in Ivan James’ Sam Houston Futurity (G2), and this is his third career start.

His sire, The Louisiana Cartel, is a Grade 2 winner and half-brother to champion Jess Louisiana Blue and others. This is his first crop to race, and it already includes Cartels Pop Pop ($190,435) and Sissy Cartel ($111,530), among others. Dam Pretty Girl Perry is unraced, but has produced three winners from four starters, including stakes-placed runner Alizee (by Azoom, $12,333).

Now let’s take a walk through the pedigrees of the 10 horses with invitations to the final.

There is one colt, five geldings and four fillies in the race. They include Rainbow Futurity (G1) winner Tres Friends, as well as five additional horses that are either a stakes winner or Grade 1 or Grade 2-placed this year.

Three of the horses are homebreds. Jess A Sweetie was a $260,000 purchase at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.

Of the sires represented in this group, two show up twice – PYC Paint Your Wagon (Lets Get On Board and Ferarri GT) and Tres Seis (A Tres Of Paint and Tres Friends). Four of the sires are third year or younger sires, including Tempting Dash (third year), Apollitical Jess and Dealagame (second year) and The Louisiana Cartel (first year).

There is a noticeable pattern in the pedigrees of these quality horses.
