Pedigree Analysis Dashin Brown Streak: The Leo Winner Holds A Streaking Pedigree

Q-RACING JOURNAL—MARCH 30, 2015—On Saturday, Remington Park celebrated its first Grade 1 race of the season, and Quarter Horse racing its third Grade 1, with a, well, aptly-named Dashin Brown Streak.

The 5-year-old brown gelding gave jockey G.R. Carter Jr. enough reason for a post-race celebratory back flip by driving to a half-length victory in the $101,120 Leo Stakes. It was the horse’s second stakes win in 17 career starts. Dashin Brown Streak, who earlier in his career was third in Jody Pops Zoomer’s Texas Classic Derby (G1), has now earned $302,814.

Dashin Brown Streak was bred in Louisiana by Lynda Hickman’s Flat Get It Farm Inc., a 10-year breeder based in Villa Rica, Georgia. He is by Hotdoggin and out of the Streakin La Jolla mare Annas Streakin Dash.

Sire Hotdoggin lived fast and died young, sadly passing away in 2012 at the age of 13. The son of Reckless Dash out of champion Deceptively, Hotdoggin was a Grade 1 runner in his 11-race career.

As a sire, he got 52 winners from 108 starters, with average earnings of $12,257 per starter. His earners are lead by Dashin Brown Streak and Restricted Grade 1 winner Dirt Track Date ($219,238). He is also a broodmare sire; last year Game ($505,994) helped put him at No. 21 on the list of broodmare sires by 2-year-old earnings.

Dam Annas Streakin Dash is a 15-year-old daughter of Streakin La Jolla, bred by Gerald Libersat. The mare was a race winner in her seven race starts, all in Louisiana, and retired to the broodmare pasture in 2003.

She hit first with her third foal, the Bigtime Favorite gelding Big Streakin, who was stakes placed in his career and earned $82,632. Dashin Brown Streak is her fifth foal. Annas Streakin Dash has a yearling by Jet Black Patriot named Dash Black Streakin.

Even more interesting, though, is her pedigree – Annas Streakin Dash’s dam, Scoopie Dash, is a half sister to none other than Mr Jess Perry. Both horses are out of the Sinn Fein mare Scoopie Fein. While Scoopie Dash is by the Dash For Cash stallion Dashing Encounter, she was crossed with Mr Jess Perry’s sire to produce Annas Streakin Dash.

Scoopie Dash was five-times a stakes placed runner in her 21-race career. The 1993 daughter mare has produced 10 winners from 12 starters, including stakes-placed runner Ms Scoopies Toast ($71,639).

Scoopie Fein, from seven starters, produced six winners and five horses who won or placed in stakes races. Lead, of course, by her 1992 foal Mr Jess Perry, they also include Sinn N Saint (by Mr. Crimson Ruler (TB)), Crimson Scoop (by Mr. Crimson Ruler (TB)) and Scoopie Cash (by Lil Easy Cash).

Scoopie Cash is the dam of Toast To My Mom (by Toast To Dash, $140,397); Scoopie Magic (by Rocket’s Magic) is the dam of stakes winner Scoopie Streak (by Streakin La Jolla, $73,617).

It is certainly a dashing pedigree.

I also want to note here that this weekend Brookestone Grey gave his dam, Senorita Tres, her second stakes winner in a week's time when he won the Harris Co. Stakes – I wrote about his half brother, Politicaly Correct, and his family last week.
