Q-RACING JOURNAL—FEBRUARY 26, 2015—It took a rogue mare to win the Sparkling Tip Bonus Challenge at Hialeah on Sunday. It was a horse race to the wire of the 300-yard stakes, which is a part of the Bank of America Challenge program, but at the end it was Jess A Rogue on top.

Bred and owned by Ronald and Jeanell Menard’s Triple M Farms LLC, sophomore filly Jess A Rogue has won four of seven starts, including the Old South Futurity and Biscayne Stakes. She has earned $80,647. She is by Heza Fast Dash out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Miss Jess Rogue.

Heza Fast Dash is a 17-year-old son of Heza Fast Man out of major producer First Prize Dash. The stakes-winning runner has from 10 crops to race sired the earners of more than $19.6 million. He was the No. 4 sire by money earned last year, and No. 3 by winners. His biggest runners include Ol Time Preacher Man ($565,933), Zupers Quick Dash ($471,129), MCM Dashmaster ($425,487), Senor Seabolt ($418,999) and Fast Talkin Henry ($400,824). The veteran stud stands at Robicheaux Ranch at Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.

Miss Jess Rogue is a 12-year-old daughter of Mr Jess Perry, whom we talked about last week after his daughter, Matabari, won the Los Alamitos Winter Championship (G1).

This ‘rogue’ daughter was bred by Mike Abraham, and is out of the Calyx mare Easily A Rogue. She was a runner from the start, winning the Zia Juvenile Invitational (R) and placing in several other stakes. She finished her career with 10 wins or placings in 17 starts and earnings of $125,159. Triple M acquired her in 2007, and saw her first foal in 2008, with the Country Chicks Man filly Jesiacountrychick, who would go on to be a stakes-placed earner of $43,813.

Her 2010 foal by Stoli, Jess Like Stoli, was also a stakes-placed runner earning $48,132 and her 2011 Game Patriot filly, Game Gone Rogue ($8,654), is a stakes winner. Her biggest runner to date is Jess A Rogue’s full brother, the 2011 colt stakes winner Heza Fast Rogue, who has won $240,350.

She has five 2-year-olds and a yearling.

Her mama is the David Clymer-bred Calyx mare Easily A Rogue, a two-time Grade 1 winner in her 34-race career. Racing in the company with memorable horses such as Corona Chick, Holland Ease, Femmes Frolic, Dash Ta Fame, Refrigerator, Fortune Of Delight and more, she earned $302,968 before heading to the broodmare band.

There, she got her career off to a good start with stakes winner Hug A Rogue (by Runaway Winner, $31,279), dam of stakes-placed runner Asnow Hug ($18,693). While Miss Jess Rogue was her most successful runner, she produced four winners from six starters.

Easily A Rogue is the best runner her mama, the Easy Jet mare Easily A Doll, ever produced. Easily A Doll, foaled in 1982, was a stakes-placed runner, and from 14 starters produced 12 winners. Easily A Rogue earned the lion’s share of her progeny earnings, but she is also the dam of stakes winner Love A Rogue (by Calyx, $54,934) and Grade 1-placed Master Rogue (by Calyx, $65,680).

She is a half sister to mares whose families produced the likes of champion and millionaireFeature Hero ($1,415,870), A Run Run Runaway ($146,185), Illegal Te ($118,149), MCM Sheza Fast Cutie ($116,425) and Sheaintcryinrealtears ($52,202).

It’s a rogue filly from a rogue family – and she’s just getting started.
