Flyin Rabbit 123 Bests Six Figure TQHA Graduate To Get Top Mark in Retama Park Training Races

SELMA, TX–MARCH 22, 2023–Retama Park hosted its final day of schooling races for 2023 today with a 15 race non-wagering card. Fourteen race were contested over 250 yards for Quarter Horse 2-year-olds. 

Races one thru nine ran over a sloppy track condition while races 10 thru 15 competed on a muddy racing surface. It was 73 degrees and cloudy in the San Antonio area today.

Flying Rabbit 123, under jockey Victor Urieta, Jr., defeated Dragones, a $102,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate, in the 13th race to set the fastest time from 106 juveniles who participated.

The altered son of champion and first crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 completed the 250 yards in :13.72 seconds for owner Louis A. Malechek III and trainer Juan Diaz, Jr.  The Oklahoma homebred is the third foal from the stakes winning Foose mare Hardtoget. The second dam is multiple graded stakes producer Tiny Corona Queen by Corona Cartel.

Dragones clocked :13.83 to tie for the second fastest time of the day. The colt by three-time world champion sire FDD Dynasty is trained by Santiago Riojas, Jr.  J&J Stone Co Inc. purchased the full brother to stakes-placed Abeachindynasty and half-brother to G3-placed One Hot Habit at the TQHA Sale. The second dam is champion producer First Femme by First Down Dash.

Eagles Moon Me, a daughter of champion Moonin The Eagle, also clocked a :13.83 time while winning the 12th race for owner Romeo Mireles and trainer Jorge Barrera.  The $9,000 LQHBA Yearling graduate is out of Awise Dash, a full sister to stakes-placed Another Wise Lady by First Down Dash.  This is the family of Grade 3 winner A Political Lady. Luis Vivanco had the riding call.

Diaz, Jr. sent out five winners on the program while John Stinebaugh saddled three and Toby Keeton two.

Flying Cowboy 123 and Ivory James were the only sires with multiple winners, getting two apiece.
