Bakers Big Ol Boy romps under Josh Romero to score the allowance feature around the turn at 870 yards on Saturdayat Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 18, 2023—Bakers Big Ol Boy ran his streak to three wins in a row at three different tracks Saturday night when he won the Saturday open allowance feature race at Remington Park going 870 yards.

Trainer John Stinebaugh sent this 4-year-old gelded son of Jess Louisiana Blue, out of the One Famous Eagle mare Lynns Fortunate One, to Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, two races back on Nov. 18, 2022, and in only his second try around the turn, he was an easy winner by 7-3/4 lengths.

The victory in an allowance race for non-winners of two started the streak for this gelding that likes to hit the front end and shout, “Catch me if you can.” The last three times, no rival has been able to do that.

Bakers Big Ol Boy followed the win at Lone Star with another 870-yard victory at Zia Park in New Mexico, going gate to wire to win by 4-1/4 lengths against allowance non-winners of three on Dec. 7, 2022. Saturday night’s open allowance race figured to be his toughest race yet and he would have to defeat stakes winners Heza Classy Now and Cold Brewster.

The Remington Park test was perfect for Bakers Big Ol Boy and jockey Josh Romero as they were able to take advantage of that early speed from the inside post. Bakers Big Ol Boy burst from the gate with no company on the lead and held off the late charge of Heza Classy Now for the victory.

The winner covered the 870 yards in :45.033 on a fast track, pulling away at the wire by 3-1/2 lengths over the runner-up in this field of 3-year-olds-and-older. He was sent off as the 6-5 second favorite in the wagering.

Heza Classy Now held on for second as the even-money favorite and was another 1-3/4 lengths in front of third-place We Call Him Joneson (17-1) to round out the trifecta. Bakers Big Ol Boy paid $4.40 to win, $2.40 to place and $2.20 to show.
