Five Bar Joy Leads Qualifiers from Louisiana Downs Starter Stake Trials

BOSSIER CITY, LA – MARCH 18, 2023 – After two trials on Saturday afternoon, Five Bar Joy leads the qualifiers for the Louisiana Downs Starter Stake (not black type), a 110-yard stake for 3-year-olds and up.

Five Bar Joy ($5.40) won the second trial by a neck in :6.978 and earned a 99 speed index under jockey Ubaldo Luna.

The 5-year-old mare is by Five Bar Cartel and is out of the Strawfly Special mare Prairie Strawfly; she was bred in Louisiana by Carl Ferguson. Guillermo Martinez trains for owner Amanda St. Amant.

Five Bar Joy notched her fourth career victory in Saturday’s trial, and she has earned $56,028 from 21 starts, all in Louisiana.

The winner of the first trial, Lady Genevieve, was the second fastest qualifier in :6.982. She won by a half-length and earned a 98 speed index.

Lady Genevieve ($18.00) pulled off a slight upset in the win, the third of her career. The 3-year-old filly has earned $24,275 in 14 starts and will make her first stakes appearance in the final.

Joel Huitron trains Lady Genevieve for owner Rogelio Huitron; Leonardo Rodriguez was in the irons. She was bred in Louisiana by Lynn and Malorie Richard, by Dragon Wings and out of Malories Warrior, by Osceola Warrior.

The third fastest time of :7.019 went to the runner-up in the second trial, One Delightful Tee, who finished a neck behind Five Bar Joy.

One Delightful Tee was the post-time favorite under rider Guadalupe Lucio, Jr. for trainer Willie J. Simien, Jr. and owner Norma Valles. The 6-year-old Tee Cos mare was bred in Louisiana by Lyle Guillory, out of the One Famous Eagle mare One Eyed Eagle.

One Delightful Tee will make her stakes debut in the final after 17 career starts, four wins, and $34,988 in earnings in the claiming ranks.
