Trainer Cody Noel Sends Out Two Fastest Winners In Training Races; Jason Olmstead Has Five Winners

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 15, 2023–It would have been a trainer Jason Olmstead fest Wednesday during training races at Remington Park, but it was trainer Cody Noel who stole the show and spotlight with three winners, including the two fastest times of the day.

Olmstead won five training races and had a couple of runner-up finishes as well.

Noel held onto the fastest time of the day when 2-year-old American Quarter Horse filly, This Candy Can Fly, won the fourth race, and she held that position until the 14th and final race when Burn the Bridge came in a tick faster, also from his barn.

Jockey Raul Valenzuela rode those two to victory in confident fashion.

Olmstead’s runner-up to This Candy Can Fly, a filly named Sheza Famous Candy, was only a head behind that winner and they both scored 77 speed indexes for their efforts. This Candy Can Fly stopped the timer for 250 yards in :13.774 into a 21-mph headwind.

Noel’s final winner of the day in the 14th, Burn the Bridge, a 2-year-old colt by Duponte, out of the Carters Cartel mare Runaway Renata, ran slightly faster. That runner hit the wire in :13.642, earning a 78. His was an extremely impressive two-length win into a 24-mph headwind.

All training races were conducted at 250 yards under sunny skies, over a fast track into headwinds ranging from 20-24mph.

Duponte, the sire of the fastest winner, certainly passed on the blazing wheels for this colt. The Champion horse stood at Four Sixes Ranch near Guthrie, Texas, until 2020 when he passed away.

Duponte earned $921,237 in his career and boasts a win in Remington Park’s biggest race of the Quarter Horse meet, the 2016 Grade 1, $1 million Heritage Place Futurity. He was voted the American Quarter Horse Association’s Champion 3-year-old colt in 2017 and retired with a record of seven wins in 16 starts.

After the top three fastest horses of the day, the next fastest winner was a full six speed index points back. Noel finished the day with three winners, including in race seven when SC Jessie D covered the distance in :14.108 (59).

Olmstead’s five winners for the day were Midnight Arrival, :13.822, 71, race one; Swingin Lightening, :13.911, 67, race two; Relentless Fantsy, :13.925, 66, race five; Inocent Bystander, :13.984, 64, race eight, and Midnight Politics, :14.001, 63, race 11.

It also was a big day for runners from trainer Shawna Manriquez’s barn as she brought home three winners. Her winners on the day were Runaway Cowgirl 123, :13.809, 71, race nine; Six Good Kicks, :13.855, 69, race three, and My First Prize Rex, :13.860, 69, race 12.

The other training race winners (all Quarter Horses), their times (in order from fastest to slowest winners), speed index, trainers and race number were:

> Lady Corona 123, :13.790, 72, Heath Taylor, race 13
> Wallstreet Lassie, :13.958, 65, Eddie Willis, race six
> One Smoken Dynasty, :14.060, Ed Hardy, race 10
