Kali K Dominates Lucille Rowe Derby Trials at Arapahoe Park Sunday

AURORA, CO—AUGUST 14, 2022—Stakes winner Kali K dominated the $60,000-est. Lucille Rowe Derby trials on Sunday when she won the last of three trials by 2-3/4 lengths to get the top qualifying time at Arapahoe Park.

With a convincing effort under jockey Jose Lopez, Kali cocked the 350 yards in :17.506 seconds, equaling a 102 speed index, to establish the top derby qualifying time. It was the sixth win in seven starts for the daughter of a leading third-crop sire One Fabulous Eagle.

Trainer Alexander Orozco conditions the brown filly for owner Luisi Marquez.  Bred in Colorado by Darling Farms, from the No Secrets Here mare A Secret Episode, Kali K has earned nearly $60,000. She suffered her only loss in the $60,015 Rocky Mountain Derby July 24th when she finished a neck off the winner El Best Tornado.

The lightly raced Mr Dash Fire got his second career win in four starts in the second trial under jockey Jose Lopez. Also trained by Orozco, the Dash Kicker colt stopped the clock in :17.638 seconds, a 97 speed index with a 4 mph tailwind, while posting a one-length win.

Out of the Separatist mare Lovin M Leave M, Mr Dash First was bred by his owner Felipe Pena. After two off-the-board performances in New Mexico at 2, Mr Dash Fire broke his maiden at Arapahoe July 12.  He has earned $6,755.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from today's three trial races, will return to Arapahoe Park on Sunday, August 28th, to vie for the winners share of the $60,000-est. purse.

Arapahoe Park in Aurora, Colorado, began its live race meet on Sunday, July 3rd and will continue through Tuesday, October 4. Race days for the Colorado meet are Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with a 1:00 pm (MDT) pastime.
