Fearless Fortitude Turns Tables On Pulgarcitos Moonin In Cherry Creek Futurity Trials Sunday

AURORA, CO—AUGUST 14, 2022—Starting off a second-place effort in the Rocky Mountain Futurity in her last start July 24th, Fearless Fortitude got her second career win on Sunday while posting the fastest qualifying time for the $75,000-est. Cherry Creek Futurity at Arapahoe Park.

Bumped at the start under jockey Martin Lazalde, Fearless Fortitude drove to a head win over Rocky Mountain Futurity winner Pulgarcitos Moonin to set the top qualifying time of :17.711 seconds, a 95 speed index into a 5 mph crosswind.

Trainer Jose Manuel Barron sent out the stakes-placed daughter of second-crop sire Flare For Ivory for owner Barron Racing, LLC.

Vaughn and Jill Cook bred the brown filly in Colorado from the Tres Seis mare Ima Fearless Fire. Fearless Fortitude has earned $18,600 in three career starts.

Runner-up Pulgarcitos Moonin held on to the second fastest time of :17.743 seconds, a 94 speed index, for owner-breeder Francisco J. Cornejo. Trainer Haley Hobbs named jockey Fernando Fonseca-Soto to ride the stakes winning son of champion Moonin The Eagle.

Bred from the Wave Carver mare Tahiti Wave, Pulgarcitos Moonin has compiled an (8) 2-2-1 record and banked $47,945.  He was also a finalist in the Oklahoma Juvenile Stakes at Remington Park in March.

That trial race set up a rematch of the top-two finishers in the July 24 $75,400 Rocky Mountain Futurity.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from today's three trial races, will return to Arapahoe Park on Sunday, August 28, to vie for the winners share of the $75,000-est. purse.

Arapahoe Park in Aurora, Colorado, began its live race meet on Sunday, July 3rd and will continue through Tuesday, October 4. Race days for the Colorado meet are Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with a 1:00 pm (MDT) pastime.
