Flashing Five Bar Fastest Qualifier In $196,736 QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity Trials

SHELBYVILLE, IN–AUGUST 13, 2022–Making his first start since a trouble sixth-place effort in the $127,400 Jaguar Rocket Futurity on July 23rd, Flashin Five Bar rolled to a three-quarter length win, under jockey Juan Marquez, to set the fastest qualifying time for the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity Saturday at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from six trial race contested for 2-year-olds sired by participating stallions, will return to Horseshoe Indianapolis on Saturday, September 3rd, to vie for the winner's share of a $196,736 purse going 350 yard.

Leading trainer Randy Smith saddled Flashin Five Bar to his second win in four starts for owners Rose Bode and Deborah Smith. The son of multiple stakes sire Five Bar Cartel was clocked in :17.991 second into a 12 mph headwind, an 88 speed index, to record the fastest time.

"He's a little bit of a hot gelding," said Smith of Flashin Five Bar. "He's a half brother to Beach Cartel and he didn’t even race as a two-year-old, so we are pretty proud of him."

Sheri Miller bred the gray gelding in Indiana from the First To Flash mare Flashin Dee Dee. Flashin Five Bar has banked $20,098.

The closing trial saw Mary Jane (5-1) break her maiden to get the second fastest qualifying time while also pulling in third and fourth fastest qualifiers We B Flyin and Hf Whoopi.

Trainer Tim Eggleston named jockey Rolando Del Rio Pina to ride Mary Jane for owner Shirley Tresner. Tresner purchased the daughter of Five Bar Cartel at the 2021 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale in Oklahoma City for $15,500.

A finalist in the Heartland Futurity in her last start, July 23rd, Mary Jane was bred in Arkansas by Markum and Corner K. Out of the Walk Thru Fire mare Fire And Delight, the chestnut filly has earned $16,804.

In a unique twist, Lonnie James, ridden by Erik Esqueda, and DNA Mr Independent, ridden by German Rodriguez, finished in a dead heat behind Flat Out Smoking. Their time of :18.179 was the 10th fastest to advance into the final. A shake will be finalized by racing officials early next week to determine which of the two horses will be added to the final list.
