Leaving Angelz Clocks Fastest Time In The Rogue River Derby Trials At Grant Pass

GRANTS PASS, OR–JUNE 19, 2022–Leaving Angelz  in no stranger to the winner’s circle, from 11 starts, the 3-year-old has visited it six times and came in as runner-up four times. The Rogue River Derby at Grants Pass in Oregon, is the fourth time Leaving Angelz won a slot to the finals, but the first time as fastest qualifier.

Post-time favorite Leaving Angelz left the gates in third place but quickly took the lead by 1/2-length at first call and kept it to the wire clocking a 91 speed index in :17.712. The multiple stakes winner defeated All Ways in the first of two trials under the the guidance of Santiago Jimenez upping his bankroll to $68,579 for the win. 

The 3-year-old gelding by Coronas Leaving You is out of Angel Eyes by FDD Dynasty and is owned/bred by Ruben Magallanes of Oregon. 

Leaving Angelz’ trainer Hector Magallanes also conditioned the second fastest qualifier L Bar D Mistr Cartel, who is won the second of two trials by a head in :19.975. The gelding son of Majestic Cartel is out of Fly Misty Fly by Devon Lane. Linda and Darrell Sanders’ Oregon homebred was ridden by Luis Flores Gonzalez.

The third fastest qualifier is All Ways who placed second to fastest qualifier Leaving Angelz. The gelding sired by Fly Thru The Fire is out of Million Ways by Raise A Secret. The Emilio Guerrero trained gelding is owned by Boardshorts Stables, LLC and bred by Edward C. Allred of California. All Ways was sold in the 2019 Los Alamitos Mixed Sale for $26,000.

Edwin Rosales was the only other trainer who had two horses return back to the finals.
