Multiple Stakes Winner Kp Dillion Returns With Impressive Win In Eye On Corona Derby Trials

SOUTH JORDAN, UT—MAY 16, 2021—Coming off nearly an eighth-month layoff, multiple stakes winner Kp Dillon rolled to a one-length win in the first of two trials Sunday for the Eye On Corona Derby at Laurel Brown Racetrack.

The 10 fastest qualifier's will return to Laurel Brown Racetrack on Saturday, May 29th to vie for the winner's share of the $24,715 purse going 350 yards.

The son of multiple stakes sire Glock flew for the gate under jockey Jesus Valenzuela to complete the 350 yards in :17.302 seconds, equaling a 106 speed index. Owned-and-bred by Karl Peterson, the Utah bred gelding is conditioned by trainer Riley Moosman.

Kp Dillon won five of six career starts last season with wins in the Hadley-Giles Futurity and Wyoming Downs Futurity. He suffered his only loss when he got caught late in the Beehive Futurity by Echo Of Thunder. Out of the Maknmoves mare Bk Roxyamovin, Kp Dillon has earned $86,932, while only racing in the Intermountain area.

Echo Of Thunder, the only horse to ever defeat Kp Dillion, bobbled the start in the same trial but rallied to finish second and get the second fastest time of :17,459 seconds, a 102 speed index.

Owner-trainer Lazaro Mendoza named jockey Jesus Canales to ride Echo Of Thunder. The stakes winning son of Turbulent Times entered today's trials off a third-place finish in the Adequan® Weber Downs Derby Challenge on May 1st.

Bred in Utah by Birrell Farms, from the Maknmoves mare BF Memory Lane, Echo Of Thunder has compiled a (7) 3-2-1 record and earned $48,064.

Also ridden by Jesus Valenzuela, Utah Bred Futurity winner No Hesitation drifted in in the second trial while defeating A Trace Of Lane by neck to get the fourth fastest clocking of :17.5114 seconds, a 99 speed index. Conditioned by Riley Moosman, for owner Jim Nebeker, No Hesitation finished second in the Holiday Handicap at Los Alamitos Race Course in his last start on December 26th.

Also a finalist in the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity(G2) last fall, the son of leading sire Favorite Cartel has compiled an (8) 4-2-1 record and banked $51,150. Richard Frandsen bred No Hesitation in Utah from the Dash Ta Fame mare Mia Ta Fame.
