Pollitical B Snow Pulls An Upset In The Open Me A Corona Stakes At Delta Downs

VINTON, LA—MAY 11, 2021—Delta Downs closed out its first week of American Quarter Horse racing for 2021 on Tuesday afternoon with a 10-race program that included the $50,000 Open Me A Corona Stakes (RG2) and seven trials for this year’s $95,585 Old South Futurity (see related story).

The Open Me A Corona was won by 15-1 longshot Apollitical B Snow with jockey Everardo Rodriguez in the saddle for trainer Rosendo Valdez, Jr. and owner Christopher A. Villatoro. The win came over heavy favorite Lifeintheastlanes, who finished fourth while making her 4-year-old debut.

Apollitical B Snow began his 350-yard journey in the Open Me a Corona from the inside post position in a field of seven and quickly went to the front while drifting out a bit. At the wire he was 1-¼ lengths to the good of fellow longshot Tuckers Prize while Ought to Go Tee wound up another head behind the top pair in third.

Apollitical B Snow covered the distance over a track that was sealed and listed as fast in a time of 17.225 seconds. That clocking equaled a speed index of 101.

The win by Apollitical B Snow was the fourth of his 15-race career and his second from five trips to the starting gate at Delta Downs. He earned $30,000 for his latest win which raised his lifetime bankroll to $78,658.

Bred in Louisiana by Glinden Leger Estate, Apollitical B Snow is brown 4-year-old gelding by Apolitical Blood, out of the This Snow Is Royal mare Mary Snow.

Runner-up Tuckers Prize earned $10,000 for the effort. Preston Jourdan owns-and-trains the graded stakes winning son of Fast Prize Dash from the Game Patriot mare BB Secrets Game.

Bred by Kirby and Phillip Bruchhaus, Tuckers Prize has compiled a (26) 10-5-4 record and banked nearly $190,000. He entered the Open Me A Corona off a two-race win streak at Louisiana Downs earlier this season. Tuckers Prize won the 2019 Louisiana Champions Day QH Derby(RG3).

Ought To Go Tee, a 3-year-old son of multiple stakes sire Tee Cos, finished a head back to pick up $5,500 for third. Fernando Lopez named Luis Vivanco to ride the bay gelding for owner Jose Oviedo.

Winner of the Louisiana Champions Day QH Juvenile Stakes (RG), Ought To Go Tee was facing older horses for the first time in. his career. A winner of three of seven starts he has earned $145,072. Ronald Gale bred the gelding from the Bigtime Favorite mare VF Ought To GO Max.

Sent to the gate at as the second longest shot on the toteboard, Apollitical B Snow paid $33 to win, $14.40 to place and $8.40 to show. Tuckers Prize returned $8.20 to place and $4.60 to show. Ought to Go Tee was worth $4.40 to show.
