QHRAI Speed Sale Enjoys Across-the-Board Increases in 2021

SHELBYVILLE, IN—SEPTEMBER 21, 2021—The 11th annual QHRAI Speed Sale, conducted Saturday, September 18th in Shelbyville, Indiana, enjoyed across-the-board increases in the gross, average and median.

This year's sale ended with gross receipts of $223,050 for 20 head sold, up 13% from $196,000 in 2020 when the sale sold 28 head. The average was up 59% to $11,153 for 2021, compared to $7,032 in last year. The median was up more than 100% to $9,750 over $4,500 in 2020.

Buddy Presley paid $26,750 for the high-seller, Hip #35 Streakindownthebeach, a gelding by multiple stakes sire Habits Secret. Ed Pennington consigned the first foal out of the multiple stakes winner Beach Runner by Escondido Beach, a sister to multiple stakes winner Beach Cartel ($486,128).

Francisco Diaz purchased the second high-seller Hip 68 Hf Eyes On The Prize, a colt by multiple stakes sire Jess Zoomin for $22,000. Randy Haffner consigned the by colt out of Fast Prize Karen a One Famous Eagle half-sister to All American Invitational runner-up My Fast Prize and stakes-placed and All American Derby(G1) finalist Fast Prize Rumor. The third dam is Heritage Place Futurity winner Fast First Prize, a sister to leading sire Heza Fast Dash.

Pam Hann purchased the sale's third high-seller Hip 39, an unnamed son of Habits Secret from the consignment of John Wolport, for $21,500. The bay colt out of the Ivory James mare C U Tamale, is a brother to multiple stakes winner Packin Secrets ($100,294). The second dam is the stakes winner El Streaker ($146,201).

Anthony Cunningham was leading buyer with two head for $28,500. Buddy Presley had the one for $26,750 and Francisco Diaz had the one for $22,00.

Randy Haffner was the leading consignor and/or agent with two yearlings grossing $32,000. Brian Gunder sold five head for $28,050 and Ed Pennington had one for $26,750.

Habits Secret was the leading sale sire (by average, two or more sold) with four head averaging $20,563. Jess Zoomin had two for $18,875 average and Escondido Beach sold two for a $13,250 average.
