Ruidoso Horse Sale Company kicked off their annual New Mexico Bred Yearling Sale on Friday at Ruidoso Downs. The second session will get under Saturday following the final race at the track.

Mixed Numbers In Opening Session of New Mexico Bred Yearling Sale

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 19, 2016—The opening session of the 2016 New Mexico Bred Quarter Horse Yearling Sale got underway Friday at Ruidoso Downs with the median price up 7% over last year's complete sale totals.

The first session saw 111 of 130 horses offered gross $1,225,100 for an $11,037 average, down from the overall average of $12,947 in 2015. The median price in the opening session hit $8,000 compared to $7,500 for the total sale last year.

Jack Manning paid $60,000 for the high-seller in session 1, Hip 88 He Be Flashy, a son of leading New Mexico sire First Moonflash from the consignment of Double LL Farms, Agent. The sorrel colt is out of the stakes winning Corona Caliente mare Seven Coronas, the dam of two stakes horses.

Arden Sue Floyd Family Trust paid $42,000 for Hip 80 Track Cartel, a gelded son of leading first crop sire Big Daddy Cartel from the stakes winning thoroughbred mare Racetrack Barbie, by Hidden City. Consigned by MJ Farms, Agent, Track Cartel is a half-brother to RG2 winner Carson City Girl.

Don Reynolds signed a $38,000 ticket for Hip 82 Purple Angel, a Big Daddy Cartel filly from the first crop of the unraced Mr Jess Perry mare Champagne Perry. Also consigned by MJ Farms, Agent, the filly's second dam is the stakes winner and champion producing mare Champagne Lane, dam of AQHA Racing Champion filly Alice K White.

Jack Manning led all first season buyers with the one purchase for $60,000. Paul Blanchard and R.D. Hubbard had three totaling $56,500 and Martin Ybarra paid $48,500 for two yearlings.

MJ Farms, Agent led all consignors and agents in the first season with 25 head grossing $386,500. Double LL Farms, Agent had 32 head ring $315,700 and Cindy Dick sold four yearlings for $70,200.

Leading first crop sire Big Daddy Cartel led all sires (by average with two or more sold) in the opening session with 19 yearlings averaging $16,211. Leading sire First Moonflash had 27 head average $14,074 and Heza Motor Scooter saw three had average $12,500.

Tres Seis Nueve was the leading "first crop sale sire" (by average with two or more sold) with two yearlings averaging $8,100.

The second session of New Mexico Bred Quarter Horse Yearlings will get underway tomorrow (Saturday) following the races at Ruidoso Downs and will offer Hips 145 thru 184A. The final session, New Mexico Bred Thoroughbred yearlings will be offered Saturday night as Hips 185 thru 286.
