Double Bar S Ranch LLC To Join Los Alamitos Equine Sale As A Partner In 2016

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JANUARY 20, 2016—Prominent longtime breeders and two-time AQHA champion owners Sharon, Rhonda Rae, and Dawn List of Double Bar S Ranch LLC will join 13-time AQHA champion breeder Ed Allred, Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Board Member and leading breeder Dr. Steve Burns DVM, and leading breeder John Andreni as partners for the 2016 renewal of the Los Alamitos Equine Sale to be held on Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2.

“I am pleased that Double Bar S Ranch will continue to race and market horses in California and chose to be affiliated with the Los Alamitos Equine Sale,” said Allred, the owner of Los Alamitos Race Course.

The Los Alamitos Equine Sale is managed by the PCQHRA and is widely regarded as one of the nation’s top Quarter Horse sales thanks to a catalog that offers the sport’s premiere racing bloodlines.

“It was a no brainer (to join the Los Alamitos Equine Sale),” said Rhonda Rae List. “Even though we breed and sometimes race in other states our roots are in California. Although the quantity of horses we breed and raise has decreased the quality certainly hasn't. We look forward to offering our stock at the sale. Our entire family is honored to be involved and included as partners in this exciting sale.”

“We are thrilled to be a part of the Los Alamitos Equine Sale,” added Dawn List. “We have our horses in many different states, California included now that we have put the ranch on the market, but we are California girls no matter what. This is our home, we want nothing but the best for California racing and will do everything we can to support that.”

Jens L. List, Jr. established the Double Bar S Ranch after purchasing land in Moreno Valley in June of 1989. The ranch was the home of the late great stallion Strawfly Special, who sired two-time World Champion Tailor Fit, and All American Futurity winners Streakin Flyer and Ausual Suspect. With a passion for Quarter Horse racing, List, Jr. bred the earners of over $6.2 million and the winners of 560 races until his passing in November of 1996. List, Jr. bred Meddlin In Money, a multiple stakes winner and earner of $360,338.

List, Jr.’s spouse, Sharon, and their daughters, Rhonda and Dawn, have continued the great legacy of the Double Bar S Ranch racing and breeding divisions. Double Bar S Ranch was named the 2006 AQHA Champion Owners thanks in part to the accomplishments of a pair of outstanding 2-year-old homebreds, Golden State Million Futurity winner Jess You And I and PCQHRA Breeders Futurity and Governor’s Cup Futurity winner Tac It Like A Man. The following year, the Double Bar S Ranch-bred Carters Cartel was voted the 2007 AQHA champion 2-year-old colt following victories in the Kindergarten Futurity and Ed Burke Million Futurity.

The success of the Double Bar S Ranch-homebreds continued in the years that followed, as Jess You And I became one of the sport’s biggest stars. Double Bar S Ranch has started over 2,000 horses resulting in 260 wins for $7.5 million in earnings at Los Alamitos since 1998.
