Louisiana Rocket Tops TQHA Yearling Sale's Opening Session as Median Rises

SAN ANTONIO, TX—JULY 24, 2015—TQHA opened day 1 of their 18th annual Yearling Sale with a 14% increase in median compared to last year's final numbers. The sale being conducted Friday and Saturday (July 24-25) in the Exposition Hall at the Freeman Arena in San Antonio, Texas features 300 Texas-Bred yearlings.

Friday's median price rose to $8,000 compared to $7,000 for the final median average of last year's sale. Ninety yearlings were marked sold in today's opening session for a $1,190,100 gross and $13,223 average. Last year's two-day average was $13,540.

Louisiana Cricket, a colt by first crop sire The Louisiana Cartel, brought the top bid on Friday of $140,000 from Billy Tiffee. Double S Farm consigned the colt out of Quick Lil Cricket, by Royal Quick Dash, as agent for Mary Denson. Louisiana Cricket is a half-brother to G3 winner The Field Cricket ($138,846).

Conda Maze paid $59,000 for the One Famous Eagle colt Jimmy Eagle consigned by 6666 Ranch, Agent for Bullard Farms/Burnett Ranches. The sorrel colt is out of G3 winner and multiple stakes producer Go You Must, by Meter Me Gone.

The third high-seller in Friday's session was a half-brother to champion and recent Rainbow Derby winner Kiss My Hocks ($1,143,461), named Like A Denali. Ricardo Barrera paid $55,00 for the colt consigned by Southwest Stallion Station, Agent for Tyler Graham and John Mayers.

Ricardo Barrera was the sale's leading buyer on day 1 with 10 purchases totaling $210,700. Billy Tiffee signed two tickets for $151,500 and Paragon Farms purchased two head for $85,000.

Double S Farm, Agent for Mary Denson was the leading consignor with day 1's one sale-topper at $140,000. Bobby D. Cox sold 10 head gross $99,300 and 6666 Ranch, Agent for Johnny Trotter sold two head for $90,000.

First crop sire The Louisiana Cartel led all first day sale sires (by average with two or more sold) with five head averaging $32,280. Champion and leading sire One Famous Eagle had nine head average $30,611 and Jodys Money Pop had five yearlings average $16,080.
