SELMA, TX–AUGUST 17 2022–
Graded stakes winner Ponte Trucha and fastest qualifier Queens R Tempting headline a field of 10 2-year-olds entered back in Saturday's 350-yard, $175,000 Texas QHA Sires' Cup Futurity (RG3) at Retama Park.

Ponte Trucha set the 10th-fastest qualifying time from six trials on August 5, but the gelded son of Duponte has earned $227,701 from five races, and his four wins include a three-quarter length victory as a 22-1 longshot in the 300-yard, $324,000 Louisiana Downs Futurity (G3) on April 3. Josue Huitron trains the gelding and $18,000 purchase at last year's Heritage Place Yearling Sale for owner Armando Cortez.

Ponte Trucha drew post 9 and will be ridden by Heriberto Aguilar-Orozco.

Queens R Tempting drew the rail post and will be ridden by Victor Urieta Jr. for owner Carlos Ponce and trainer Juan Diaz Jr. A $40,000 buy at last year's Heritage Place Yearling Sale, the bay daughter of champion Tempting Dash is coming off of a half-length victory in the first TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity trial.

Also on Saturday, 10 sophomores are entered back in the 400-yard, $110,000 TQHA Sires' Cup Derby (R).

Jerry Windham's Hes No Illusion, a homebred son of The Louisiana Cartel and the fastest qualifier, scored a head victory in the first of three trials on August 6. The brown gelding has banked $34,800 from six outs this season, and his record includes second-place finishes in the 350-yard, $55,000 Leon Bard Memorial Stakes (R) for Texas-breds at Sam Houston Race Park, and the 330-yard, $44,000 Silver Eagle Stakes (R) for state-breds at Retama Park.

Hes No Illusion drew post 5 and will be ridden by Claudio Aguilar for trainer Lewis "Tooter" Jordan.
