RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 19, 2020—Eighty-seven 3-year-olds, topped by Grade 1 winners Cers Final Try, Fernweh, and Hotsempting, have been entered in Sunday’s 440-yard All American Derby (G1) trials at Ruidoso Downs.

A gelded son of One Dashing Eagle trained by Tony Sedillo for owner Christina D. Robinson, Cers Final Try has earned $547,500 from 15 races, and his two wins in five outs at the 440-yard distance include a head victory in the July 18, $710,000 Rainbow Derby (G1) at Ruidoso Downs.

Cers Final Try drew post 4 and will be ridden by Alfredo Sigala in the third of nine trials.

Fernweh races for Rusty Allred from the barn of trainer Charles “Duke” Shults. The sorrel daughter of Favorite Cartel saw her undefeated streak ended with her ninth-place finish in the July 18, $316,000 Rainbow Oaks, but she has won three of four starts at Ruidoso Downs, including last year’s 350-yard, $1-million Ruidoso Futurity (G1).

Fernweh drew post 2 and will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez in the second heat.

Hotsempting is coming off of a second-place finish to Cers Final Try in the Rainbow Derby. A daughter of champion Tempting Dash owned by Miguel Y. Gallegos and Mauricio Gallegos, the filly has won three of her four outs at Ruidoso Downs this summer, including the 400-yard, $887,000 Ruidoso Derby (G1) on June 6.

Hotsempting drew post 9 and will be ridden by Esgar Ramirez for trainer Sergio Ibarra in the fifth trial.

Other prominent 3-year-olds entered in Sunday’s trials include Valeriano Racing Stables LLC’s Inaugurator, a son of world champion Apollitical Jess trained by Monty Arrossa. Inaugurator won all three of his starts during the Remington Park spring meet, including the 400-yard, $232,000 Heritage Place Derby (G2) on May 30.

Inaugurator drew post 7 and will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez in the fifth trial.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the September 6, $1 million-est. All American Derby final.
