RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 13, 2022–Looking for her third consecutive appearance in the Q-Racing Video Distaff Challenge Championship(G1), multiple graded stakes winner Lynnder 16 powered to a nose win while setting the fastest qualifying time for the $35,624 Q-Racing Video Ruidoso Distaff Challenge at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack & Casino.
The 10 fastest qualifiers, from two trials contested for 3-year-old and up Challenged enrolled fillies and mares, will return to Ruidoso Downs Saturday, August 27th, to vie for the winner's purse valued at $16,387.
Also on the line is a berth to the 400-yard Grade 1 $100,000-est. Q-Racing Distaff Challenge Championship final to be held on Bank of America Racing Challenge Championships at the Horseshoe Indianapolis on October 22.
Under jockey Edwin Escobedo, Lynnder 16 rolled over the 400 yards in :16.665 seconds, a 94 speed index, to set the top qualifying mark. It was the 17th career win for the daughter of leading sire Apollitical Jess.
Trainer Jason Olmstead conditions the 6-year-old Oklahoma-bred mare for owners Tom Maher and Richard Tobin. James and Marilyn Helzer bred Lynnder 16 from the Corona Cartel mare Tinys Corona Queen.
Winner of the Grade 1 AQHA Distaff Challenge Championship in 2021, Lynnder 16 finished fourth in last year's edition at The Downs in Albuquerque. She has earned nearly $800,000.
Ruidoso QH Derby(G1) runner-up Valiant Stars was a neck winner in the second trial to get the fourth fastest time of :19.731 seconds, a 92 speed index into a 5 mph crosswind.
Fred Danley trains the 4-year-old daughter of champion sire Valiant Hero for owners J& SM, Inc. and Stone Chase Stables. Noe Garcia, Jr. had the riding call on the Oklahoma-bred out of Cluster Of Stars (TB) by Greeley's Galaxy (TB).
The seven-time winner has earned $293,463. McColee Land & Livestock LLC is the breeder.
