Fred Scane Stakes winner Chicks First Flash start in Saturday's John Deere California Juvenile Challenge at Los Alamitos.

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—AUGUST 10, 2022—Juveniles will be in action with a berth on the line to the John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship when a full field of 10 face off in the California regional on Saturday night at Los Alamitos.        

The winner will advance to the Juvenile Championship to be at Horseshoe Indianapolis on October 22. Aged runners Speed Dynasty and Jet Wings One both punched their qualifying ticket to Indianapolis with victories in California regionals last weekend. It’s now the young stars turn to shine in this 350-yard dash.                          

Top names in action will include Five Livestock Company LLC and Steve Wright’s impressive Chicks First Flash, who won the Fred Scane Stakes in his last start after running second in the Grade 2 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity in May.

The gelding by champion sire First Moonflash posted the fastest qualifying time to the Kindergarten Futurity but was bumped hard in the final before flying late to finish a strong second. He then dominated the Fred Scane, taking the lead shortly after the start on the way to a 1-1/4 length victory. The Monty Arrossa-trainee has finished first or second in all four of his career starts.                 

M & M Racing Stables’ Imm Born To Fly won her first two starts, including a Kindergarten trial, but finished out of the money in the Fred Scane. She figures to be a top place in the California regional. The talented Alternative Jess, who faced lots of trouble in her debut, is another one to watch.

Also in action in the California Juvenile will be The Train Station, Reminder, Fired Up For This 1, Famous Miss Kitty, A Revenant Lady, J La Sultana, and Jettin Gigi.
