Bh Lisas Boy Starts Defense Of Bank Of America Championship On Saturday At Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—AUGUST 8, 2019—Bill Hoburg's BH Lisas Boy will make his 40th career start while beginning his quest to win back-to-back runnings of the Grade 1 Bank of America Challenge Championship when he headlines the $40,579 Bank of America California Regional Challenge at 440 yards in the eighth race on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

The winner of this race will earn a berth to the Grade 1 final to be held at Albuquerque Downs later this year. BH Lisas Boy is no stranger to success, particularly in this race. The runner-up in the 2016 final, BH Lisas Boy came back last year to win the California regional by a nose before cruising to a daylight victory in the 2018 final.

The 7-year-old will now set his sights on a fourth career appearance in the quarter-mile final when he takes on a strong cast that also features Mark and Peggy Brown's Jess My Kiss, last year's winner of the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Derby, and Ron Hartley's Black Fryday, a two-time graded derby winner last year.

Bred, owned and trained by Hoburg, BH Lisas Boy also competed in the 2015 Bank of America Challenge Championship final. The Idaho-bred son of Mighty Invictus will enter this race having visited the winner's circle 20 times during his great career and his lifetime earnings currently stand at $785,829. He's a four-time Grade 1 stakes winner and a victory on Saturday night would make him a 13-time stakes winner. Oscar Andrade Jr will ride BH Lisas Boy from post 4.
