Faster Than Hasta Wins Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge Via DQ of Fastest Qualifier

ALTOONA, IA – SEPTEMBER 16, 2017Faster Than Hasta was within a length of the lead at the wire, but was placed first in the $46,170 Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge following the disqualification of the winning horse.

Dauns First Desirio crossed the wire first, but after an inquiry that indicated he interfered with Kowboy Jim to his outside, Dauns First Desirio was placed third, behind now second-place finisher Kowboy Jim.

Faster Than Hasta ($50.40) and Alfredo Triana Jr. posted a time of 19.967 for the 400-yard stakes race and earned an 87 speed index. The son of Hasta Be Fast is trained by Bob Johnson for John Johnson, and was bred in Wyoming by Wardell Quarter Horses. Faster Than Hasta is out of Leadmetoyourladder, by Special Leader, making him a full brother to multiple stakes winner and accomplished Challenge competitor Hastabealeader.

Though Faster Than Hasta was an upset horse in Saturday’s regional Derby Challenge qualifier, he is a multiple stakes winner with $78,480 in earnings, including wins in the Minnesota Stallion Breeders’ Futurity at Canterbury Park and the Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge in 2016.

Kowboy Jim and Oscar Delgado were placed second as a result of the disqualification. Owned, trained and bred by Dean Fry, Kowboy Jim was undefeated in three starts at Canterbury prior to shipping to Iowa, and won the Canterbury Park Derby in July.

Kowboy Jim has now earned over $75,000 in ten starts and has maintained a 50% win rate throughout his career. The gelding was bred in California by Fdd Dynasty, out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Counting On You. He was the third fastest qualifier to Saturday’s final.

Placed third, Dauns First Desirio was the fastest qualifier to the Derby Challenge regional qualifier at Prairie Meadows. Cesar Gomez had the call for trainer Julio Corral and owner Rogelio Carbajal Santos.

Dauns First Desirio was bred a Texas by Dan and Jolene Urschel. The gelding is a son of Desirio and is out of First Daun Express, by First Down Express.

In his nine lifetime starts, Dauns First Desirio has only finished off the board in one starts and has a stakes win to his name at Arapahoe.

Completing the field were Nsm Skydancer, Sassy Irish Lassie, Putinical, Corona Springs, Write Your Story, BP Painted Valentine and Attack the Wind.
