TUCSON, AZ—FEBRUARY 18, 2017—Under jockey Justine Klaiber Captain On Takeoff raced with authority to defeat Phoebesdynasty by half-a-length in the $13,650 Rillito Bonus Challenge Stakes (not black type) Saturday afternoon at Rillito Park. Mr Jb Perry finished three-quarter back in the show position.
Trainer Thomas Moreno saddled Captain On Takeoff to his sixth career win for owner Joel Merino Gamez. The 5-year-old rolled over a "wet fast" sealed race course in :16.600 seconds, a 107-speed index for 330 yards.
Bred in Texas by Burnett Ranches LLC, the stakes winning son of Captain Courage is out of the First Down Dash mare Takeoff Royally. The $7,508 Challenge purse pushes the 5-year-olds earnings total to $44,138.
Ronald Beverly had the riding call from trainer Royal Ronquillo on third place finisher Mr Jb Perry. Armando Castellanos owns the Oklahoma bred son of Mr Jess Perry from the Chicks Beduino mare Jumpn Beduino. Bred by Edward and Theresa Denike the 4-year-old earned $1,365 for the effort.
Hope On The Rocks, Jess Call Me Fancy, Specials Gold, Pony Drive and Askin For Trouble completed the field.
