GILLETTE, WY—SEPTEMBER 17, 2016—Best from the gate under jockey C.J. Benn, The Midnite Caller raced to a three-quarter length win over Kathys Star Teller in the $18,020 Energy Downs Bonus Challenge Stakes on Saturday afternoon. Ima Polaris was a nose back in the show position.
The son of A Regal Choice covered the 350-yard course in :17.623 seconds to earn a 99-speed index. Luis Gonzalez trains the multiple stakes winner for owner Alejandro Arias.
Bred in Idaho by J.M. Loveland and L. Southworth, The Midnite Caller has compiled a (38) 6-8-4 record and the $7,208 Bonus Challenge purse boosted his career earnings total to $67,567. He is out of the Murrtheblurr (TB) mare Cee The Blurr.
Saddled by Gustavo Rios, Kathys Star Teller earned $3,604 for her second place finish. Edel Ortiz Saenz owns the Teller Cartel 4-yaer-old from the Mr Jess Perry mare Sea Island Dancer. Luis Peralta rode the Wootan Racing Oklahoma-bred.
Making just his second career start in the Northwest, California-bred Ima Polaris races for owner/trainer Luis Gonzalez. Brad Tate bred the Ivory James 5-year-old from the This Snow Is Royal mare Ima Snow Ruler. Ridden by Uriel Dominguez, Ima Polaris picked up $1,802 for finishing third.
Quick Thrill, Tacacheck, Red Storm Memories, One Kool Karver, Wanna Be Fierce, Sweet American Honey and Keepyourshirton completed the field.
