SHAKOPEE, MN—JULY 17, 2016—AJs High, a multiple graded stakes winning 4-year-old gelding trained by Charlton Hunt for Michael C. Teel, is the 2-5 morning-line favorite for Sunday’s 440-yard, $65,000 Bank of America Canterbury Championship Challenge at Canterbury Park.

AJs High won all three of his starts during the Remington Park spring meet, all against stakes company. The homebred son of Apollitical Jess has won 11 of 16 starts and has earned $463,261.

Stormy Smith will ride AJs High from post 6.

Also on Sunday, a large field of 11 fillies and mares has been entered in the 400-yard, $30,000 Merial Canterbury Distaff Challenge.

Cartel Rosie, a 4-year-old daughter of champion Carters Cartel racing for Butch Wise’s Stone Chase Stables, drew post 6 and will be ridden by Roberto Valero for trainer Kasey Willis. Cartel Rosie made her season debut with a third-place finish, 1 1/4 lengths behind winner Pollitical Scorpion, in the 350-yard, $70,000 Easy Date Handicap (RG3) for Oklahoma-breds at Remington Park on May 29.

Other contenders include Barbara Barley’s Bye Bye Birdy, a homebred 4-year-old Hawkinson mare trained by Casey Black. Bye Bye Birdy is coming off of a third-place finish, three-quarters of a length behind winner This Candys Awesome, in the 400-yard, $100,000 Junos Request Stakes (G2) at Remington on June 4.

Bye Bye Birdy drew post 5 and will be ridden by Stormy Smith.
