Fastest Qualifier Country Boy 123 Returns To Win Ajax Maiden Challenge

AJAX, ONT—JUNE 6, 2016—Fastest qualifier Country Boy 123 made easy company of his rivals Sunday when he defeated Memory Of Jay by one-length in the $19,549(US) Ajax Maiden Challenge at Ajax Downs. Dashin Carter finished a half-length back in third place.

Country Boy 123, recovered from a bump at the start to cover the 330 yards in :16.770 seconds, a 97-speed index into a 13 mph crosswind. It was the second win in six starts for the Bryn Robertson trainee. Neil Husbands was in the irons.

Ruth Barbour owns the Michigan bred son of champion Country Chicks Man from the Dash Thru Traffic mare Very Dashing 123. Bred by Carolyn Bay, Country Boy 123 used the $8,992(US) winner's purse to boost his earnings to $15,154.

Erik Lehtinen saddled Memory Of Jay, a homebred son of Jesses James Jr for himself and Joyce Lehtinen. Ridden by Josh Scott, the chestnut gelding earned $3,910(US) for the effort. The Ontario bred is out of Is It Memorex, by Leaving Memories.

Dashin Carter is an Oklahoma-bred son of Carters Cartel owned-and-trained by Jason Pascoe. Cory Spataro was aboard the gelding out of Tiffany Cut, by Check Him Out. Bred by VWP Jr., Inc., Dashin Carter picked up $1,955(US).
