Favorite Tiny Flying Corona Wins RMTC Markel Bonus Challenge

LETHBRIDGE, ALB—MAY 15, 2016—Multiple stakes winner and post time favorite Tiny Flying Cartel (2-1) put in a big finish under jockey Freddy Fuentes to defeat Cruisinfourabruisin by three/quarters in the $14,637(US) RMTC Markel Bonus Challenge Stakes Sunday at Lethbridge. Northforkzoom finished half-a-length behind for second.

Saddled by trainer William Leech, Tinys First Corona completed the 300 yards in :15.552 seconds, a 98-speed index into a 14 mph headwind. The $7,758(US) winner's purse boosted the 6-year-olds earnings total to $92,910. The gelding has won three Bonus Challenge races in Canada since 2014.

Charles Stojan owns the California-bred son of Tinys First Corona from the Chicks Beduino mare Pj Phoebes Flying. Bred by Parsons Family Limited Partnership, Tiny Flying Corona has compiled a (31) 12-6-4 record.

Also a graded stakes winner, Cruisinfourabruisin picked up $3,806(US) for his second place effort. Janice Sather trains the son of leading Canadian sire First Timber for herself and Barry Sather. The Alberta homebred is from the Royal Evening Snow mare Tagulator. Jose Rocha was aboard the earner of nearly $89,000.

Northforkzoom races for owner Glenn Willis and was ridden by Ramiro Castillo. Also trained by William Leech, the multiple stakes-placed Mezoomn 7-year-old earned $1,756(US) to push his career total $62,221. Willis and T. Copithorne bred Northforkzoom in Alberta from the El Mistral mare Rj Bitterroot Babe. He has earned $52,221.

Canadian Timber, Pow Wow Lane, Kr Howdoyoulikemenow, Fast Sassy Timber and Streakin Timber completed the field.
