KENNEWICK, WA—MAY 7, 2016—Betrothen, a two-time stakes winner during her 4-year-old season, will seek her first stakes win of this season in Sunday’s 400-yard, $20,000-added Merial Sun Downs Distaff Challenge.
A California-bred daughter of Walk Thru Fire trained by Ryan Hanson for RTM Stables LLC, Betrothen made her season debut with a sixth-place finish, 4 1/2 lengths behind fastest qualifier L Bar D Sweet Fantsy, in the first of two trials on April 24. However, the mare ended her 2015 campaign with a four-race win streak that included stakes victories at Les Bois Park and Sandy Downs in Idaho.
Betrothen drew post 4 and will be ridden by Nakia Ramirez.
L Bar D Sweet Fantsy races for Roberto Ponce from the barn of trainer Hector Magallanes. A two-time claiming winner during the 2015-16 Portland Meadows meet, the 4-year-old Fantastic Corona Jr mare will be ridden by Jake Samuels from post 6.
