Okey Dokey Dale's Dominate Dick Monahan/AQHA Maiden Trials
The Dick Monahan/AQHA Maiden Challenge is named to honor Dick Monahan, a longtime advocate for horse racing in the Northwest and for the American Quarter Horse Association.

KENNEWICK, WA—APRIL 23, 2016—Ba Snowin Okies and Head Turnin Okey, both runners by multiple stakes sire Okey Dokey Dale, each scored a trial win for the Dick Monahan/AQHA Maiden Challenge on Saturday at Sun Downs. The pair also registered to the top two qualifying spots.

The 10 finalists will return to Sun Downs on Saturday, May 7 to vie for the winner's share of a $10,000-added purse going 350 yards.

Ridden by jockey Jose Beltran, Ba Snowin Okie raced to a 2˝-length win in the second trial to post the top qualifying time of :18.130 seconds into a 15 mph headwind.

Trainer Silvestre Sanguino conditions the homebred for owner/breeder Baxter Andruss. The 5-year-old Oregon bred son of Okey Dokey Dale is out of BA What A Runner (TB), by Snowbound (TB). Saturday's win was his first in 17 career starts. His record stands at (17) 1-3-4 with $6,423 earned.

Also getting her first career win was Head Turnin Okey who ran down Fnf Bad Kitty to win by nose in the first trial. Ridden by jockey Jose Madrigal, the Okey Dokey Dale 3-year-old recorded the second fastest time of :18.440 seconds, into a 15 mph headwind.

Jose Sangino trains the chestnut filly for Sanguino Racing, LLC. Bred by Michelle Dressler, from the Ex Marks The Cop mare My Fashion Cop, Head Turnin Okey has a (13) 1-2-2 record with $5,409 earned.

Dick Monahan, who served as Second Vice-President on the AQHA Executive Committee, died in 2010. He was a strong advocate for the Association. Dick was heavily involved in racing horses and promoting racing in the Northwest. He served as chair of the AQHA Racing Committee and Racing Council and served on the Hall of Fame committee during his more than 20 years of service to the Association. From Walla Walla, Washington, Dick and his wife Brenda raised and raced American Quarter Horses for more than 30 years.
