Los Alamitos to Host 2016 Challenge Championships

Q-RACING JOURNAL—NOVEMBER 7, 2015—The historic Los Alamitos Race Course will welcome back the Bank of America Challenge Championships in 2016.

This is the 11th time the Orange County racetrack has held the prestigious event.

“Los Alamitos is a premiere American Quarter Horse track, and we’re delighted that our premiere event will once again be hosted here,” said AQHA Chief Racing Officer Trey Buck.

The Bank of America Challenge Championships is the year-end culmination of the Challenge program. Regional races held around the world give horses qualifying berths to the Challenge Championships, which offers more than $1 million in purse and prizes on a single night.

“I am delighted that the AQHA has adopted an effective program for testing for clenbuterol by implementing hair testing for the Racing Challenge program,” said Los Alamitos CEO Dr. Ed Allred. “Hair testing will provide a level playing field in Racing Challenge races. I appreciate the leadership of AQHA President Dr. Glenn Blodgett in getting this done.

“Los Alamitos Race Course will host the Racing Challenge finals for a record 11th time in 2016,” he added. “This night brings so many people together to enjoy the sport of Quarter Horse racing and the entire Los Alamitos family is thrilled to be a part of it.”

Los Alamitos most recently hosted the Challenge Championships in 2013. The track holds the record for most-frequent host during the Challenge’s 23-year history.
