TUSCON, AZ—FEBRUARY 15, 2015—Multiple stakes winner Downtown Richard held off a game effort from Surf Dog Sunday afternoon to win the $13,300 Rillito Bonus Challenge (not black-type) by a neck at Rillito Park.
Ridden by jockey Davie Reyes-Frisby, Downtown Richard completed the 330 yards in a quick :16.830 seconds, a 99-speed index, for his 10th career win in 42 starts. The $7,315 Bonus Challenge purse boosted his career total to nearly $150,000.

Making his first start of the season after winning an Allowance race at Turf Paradise on November 29, Surf Dog earned $2,660 for owner Victor Enciso-Ulloa. Jamie Adavaz, Sr. trains the gelded full-brother to world champion Wave Carver and champion Ocean Runaway. Ridden by Don Lee French, the 8-year-old picked up $2,660.
Cara Limpia, an Arizona-bred daughter of Corona Caliente from the Amigo Menor (TB) mare Whos Laughin Last, finished a neck off the leaders in the show position. Also trained by Aldavaz, Cara Limpia is a home-bred for owner/breeder Ricardo Biebrich. Emilo Tapia was up to earned $1,330.
Kingdom Regard, Barefoot Bluejean, Blamitonthetequila, Wyreit and Haleys Dashing Hope completed the field.
