Lone Star Park kicks off its 2018 live Quarter Horse meet on Friday, featuring trials for the Grade 3 $200,000 Dash For Cash Derby.

The Wait Is Over! Live Racing Is Back For The 2018 Quarter Horse Season Which Opens Friday

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—SEPTEMBER 20, 2018—If you feel the need, the need for speed, join us for Live Quarter Horse Racing featuring the world’s fastest horses.

Lone Star Parks 2018 Quarter Horse season opens Friday, September 21 and runs through Saturday, November 10. Live racing will be held each Friday and Saturday night. Gates open at 5 p.m. First race post time is 6:05 p.m. central time for all dates.

Opening weekend features some top three-year-olds competing to solidify a berth in the Grade 3, $200,000 Dash For Cash Derby on Friday and top two-year-olds on Saturday competing to advance to the Grade 2, $400,000 Dash For Cash Futurity. The final for each is scheduled for Saturday, October 6.

Friday night features 12 races. The Dash For Cash Derby Trials have drawn a total of 50 three-year-olds and have been evenly divided into five trials, carded races 7 through 12. The competitors clocking the 10 fastest times will advance to the final to be run at 440 yards. It’s all about speed!

Entries of note in Friday’s Dash For Cash Derby Trials include:

  • In the first trial race 7, Eos a Political Win by Apollitical Jess, dead-heated with Three Bar Cartel for the win in the Retama Park Derby July 28, and finished third in the Grade 3 Heritage Place Derby at Remington Park June 2. The bay colt has won three of six starts this year. He is owned by Elite Oil Services and trained by Rolando Almanza. Jesse Levario has the mount and will break from the rail position.
  • In the 8th race watch last year’s Texas Classic Futurity winner, Thecartelofmiracle by Tough and Good. Last May the brown gelding won the Sam Houston Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park. In June he finished a very close third in the Firecracker Derby at Delta Downs and in July placed fourth as the favorite in the Retama Park Derby. Thecartelofmiracle is owned by Mauro Luciano Villarreal and trained by Josue Ponce. He will be ridden by Manuel Gutierrez.
  • Trainer Josue Ponce has Sr Shambles in the 9th race. Owned by Rueben Garcia Montemayor, the bay colt by Desirio has won two of his last three starts. Most recent was a third in the Retama Park Derby. Jesse Levario will ride.
  • It looks to be a good night for trainer Josue Ponce and rider Jesse Levario. The pair teams again in the 10th race with Three Bar Cartel. The grey son of Capo de Capi was undefeated last year winning the $354,000 Dash For Cash Futurity. He has won two of four starts this year most recently sharing the victory in a dead heat with Eos a Political Win in the Retama Park Derby as mentioned previously. Three Bar Cartel is another owned by Rueben Garcia Montemayor.
  • Race 11, the final Dash For Cash Derby trial drew three closely matched hopefuls. Allowance winner Prison Break Pilsner trained by Gilbert Aguirre, stakes winner Stone Cold Leader trained by Joe. M. Davis and stakes placed Lions Express trained by Adrian Huitron.

The 12-race card is set to begin at 6:05 p.m. Post time for the first Dash For Cash Derby Trial, race 7 is 8:53 p.m. The final trial, race 11 is scheduled to go off at 10:45 p.m.
