Remington Park Opens Stable Area For Quarter Horses

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—FEBRUARY 12, 2016—Remington Park began receiving horses into the stable area this morning, four weeks away from the opening of the 2016 American Quarter Horse Season. Trainer Duke Shults was the first to pass through the stable gate with his stable star A Tres Of Paint taking up residence for her derby season.

The runner-up in the $1,170,000 Heritage Place Futurity here last year, A Tres Of Paint also competed in two more futurities worth more than a million dollars. After her effort in the Heritage Place Futurity, A Tres Of Paint was fifth in the $1 million Rainbow Futurity in July at Ruidoso Downs, N.M. and then fourth in the $1.1 million Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas in November.

Owned by his sister, Sara Morgan of Edmond, Okla., Shults trained A Tres Of Paint to four victories from 10 attempts as a 2-year-old with two other runs in second place. The talented 3-year-old Oklahoma-bred daughter of Tres Seis from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare First Painted Sign, has accumulated total career earnings of $361,914.

Friday morning was also the first day with Remington Park’s new horse admission protocols in place to help deter any situation involving the Equine Herpesvirus (EHV-1). An outbreak of the EHV-1 virus has occurred in many states with the most prevalent emergency at Sunland Park and training facilities near the New Mexico racetrack.

“The first day has gone smoothly and our new policies for arriving horses are being followed,” said Remington Park vice president of operations Matt Vance. “We will continue to regulate the acceptance of horses into our stable area under the guidelines that have been developed, in order to prevent any possible infection of our equine population.”

The Remington Park racing surface will open for training tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 13. The first training races offered to prepare young horses for the season will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 17.

The Remington Park live racing schedule begins Friday, March 11 and continues thru Saturday, June 4.

Open daily for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park, home of the historic $400,000 Oklahoma Futurity. The 75th running of the oldest futurity in Quarter Horse racing takes place on Saturday, March 26, 2016.
