Remington Park Reminds Horsemen About New Vaccination Policy For Arriving Horses

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—FEBRUARY 12, 2016—Remington Park opened its stable gates for the first time in 2016, allowing horses into the barn area in preparation for the upcoming American Quarter Horse Season.

Friday morning was also the first day with Remington Park’s new horse admission protocols in place to help deter any situation involving the Equine Herpesvirus (EHV-1). An outbreak of the EHV-1 virus has occurred in many states with the most prevalent emergency at Sunland Park and training facilities near the New Mexico racetrack.

“The first day has gone smoothly and our new policies for arriving horses are being followed,” said Remington Park vice president of operations Matt Vance. “We will continue to regulate the acceptance of horses into our stable area under the guidelines that have been developed, in order to prevent any possible infection of our equine population.

“We want to clarify that all horses must be properly vaccinated with an FDA approved modified live or killed virus vaccine for EHV-1. After the day of vaccination, another 14 days must pass before any horse will be allowed entry into our stable area.”

For example, if a horse is vaccinated against EHV-1 on the 12th of the month, the first date that horse can be admitted to Remington Park would be on the 27th of the month.

All horsemen must have their veterinarians provide the date of vaccination, the brand, serial number, and the expiration date of vaccine. If there are any questions regarding the admission policy for horses, please contact the Remington Park racing office.

The Remington Park racing surface will open for training tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 13. The first training races offered to prepare young horses for the season will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 17 and Thursday, Feb. 18.

The Remington Park live racing schedule begins Friday, March 11 and continues thru Saturday, June 4.

Open daily for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park, home of the historic $400,000 Oklahoma Futurity. The 75th running of the oldest futurity in Quarter Horse racing takes place on Saturday, March 26, 2016.
