Friday’s First Post Times For Los Alamitos Now 7:45 P.M. Pacific

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MAY 21, 2015—Effective immediately and continuing through Friday, June 26, the first post time on Friday nights at Los Alamitos will now be 7:45 p.m. (PDT).

The first race on Fridays here will follow shortly after the final race at Santa Anita, which is now featuring 4 O’Clock Fridays for the duration of their Summer Thoroughbred meet.

As always, the Los Alamitos Early Pick Four will kick off the racing action at the Orange County oval with Friday’s sequence featuring a pair of Quarter Horse races and two Thoroughbred events. The second race on the card is a Quarter Horse event featuring a wide-open field of 10 sprinters.

The final race in the early Pick For sequence (race #4) is the feature event on the card, as it will feature talented runners like stakes winners Sugarbear Sax Man and Checkspeed, the stakes placed A Mere Diva, and stakes finalist Pink Berreta, plus several other stakes experienced runners. Fields with seven Thoroughbreds in each race will make up the first and third races on the card. The card will also include a pair of races for juveniles with Janet McKinnerney’s Jess A Pollitician among the freshman to watch. Rolll Tide and Jim Ivory are also top contenders.

McDonnell Hoping That Metaxa Can Fly

Owner Patrick McDonnell enjoyed a solid campaign with his Thoroughbreds in 2014, as his runners landed him in the winner’s circle eight times from their 35 starts, good enough to finish fourth in the local standings. McDonnell also had five runner-up finishers and six third place finishers.

McDonnell celebrated another Thoroughbred win earlier this year on Mother’s Day, May 10 and he did it with a horse with a name that seems destined to win on Father’s Day in Oh Daddy Oh. McDonnell will look to enjoy another score on this Saturday night with the 7-year-old Metaxa, a Decarchy mare named after a popular Greek liquor. She’s won twice this year before being claimed by McDonnell on March 29. She’ll make her second start for McDonnell and trainer Charles Treece since being claimed. She’ll start in Saturday’s third race at 4 1/2 furlongs. First post time is 6 p.m.

“Patrick is a great owner,” Treece said. “I’ve been training for him for about three years. Racing and baseball are two of his big loves. He’s a big Giants fan. As for his horses, he picks them out and he lets me run them where I think they’ll do well. I like Metaxa’s chances tonight.”
