Big Changes Underway at Fair Meadows

TULSA, OK—APRIL 24, 2015—Work is currently underway on a new track surface at Fair Meadows in Tulsa, Oklahoma under the supervision of former Will Rogers trackman Jake Wilson.

The 2015 Fair Meadows race meet is just over a month away and the racetrack has again contract edwith Will Rogers Downs management and Mark Enterline to oversee the operations of the 2015 meet. Jesse Ullery will server as racing secretary.

Another big change for 2015 Fair Meadows is the demolition of the entire north section of the old grandstand, including the racing and licensing office building. A new racing office, licensing office, and stewards accommodations are being constructed in the area that formerly housed the Winning Colors Restaurant.

Additionally, due to a contracting agreement with the Pinto World Show, the stabling for the meet will no longer include the South section of the Super Barn so additional permanent stabling has been relocated in what was previously the saddling paddock structure and a new saddling paddock will be located on the footprint where the racing office was previously located.

"We are very excited about the changes for 2015" said Debbie Schauf, OQHRA Executive Director. "Although our first choice was not to give up the stalls in the south end of the Super Barn, we do think the new location of the paddock, and the increased area for horsemen to put walkers will work out really well."

Fair Meadows will conduct a mixed meet from June 4th thru July 25th with 34 days of live racing. The 2015 purse levels for Quarter Horses will be approximately the same as 2014 with an average purse of $11,000 per race and a total purse for the meet of about $2 Million.

The Paint and Appaloosa purse levels will increase by almost $1,000 per race from 2014 levels. The daily schedule will offer five Thoroughbred, five Quarter Horse and two Paint and Appaloosa races.

"The track has really worked to make improvements for the comfort of fans and horsemen alike, and has implemented an aggressive marketing campaign this year " Schauf continued, " and we are really excited to see if we can't restore some of the old enthusiasm for live racing at this fair meet."

Horsemen interested in running at Fair Meadows should contact Jesse Ullery at Will Rogers Downs for a stall application. 918-283-8815 or email at jesse.ullery@cnent.com.
