GRANTS PASS, OR—OCTOBER 13, 2021—L Bar D Mistr Cartel and Leaving Angelz are among the 35 2-year-olds entered in Sunday’s 400-yard Far West Futurity trials at Grants Pass Downs.

A pair of stakes-placed juveniles, L Bar D Mistr Cartel and Leaving Angelz are both trained by Hector Magallanes. L Bar D Mistr Cartel is a homebred gray son of the Corona Cartel stallion Majestic Cartel, and he has earned $17,550 from three races for his owners, F. Darrell and Linda Sanders. The gelding will be making his first start since the Fourth of July, when he ran second, a neck behind winner Five Bars Blazin, in the 350-yard, $90,000 Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass Downs.

L Bar D Mistr Cartel drew post 8 and will be ridden by Martin Osuna in the second of four trials.

Leaving Angelz is a homebred Coronas Leaving You gelding racing for Ruben Magallanes, and he will be stretching out in distance off of his wire-to-wire, 1 1/2-length win in a 300-yard, $8,000 open-condition allowance dash at Grants Pass Downs on September 28. Leaving Angelz has banked $27,029 from six outs, and his resume includes a second-place finish, two lengths behind winner Apolinaria Prize, in the August 22, $51,000 John Deere Emerald Downs Juvenile Challenge Stakes.

Leaving Angelz drew post 9 and will be ridden by Martin Osuna in the third heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the November 8, $40,000-added Far West Futurity final.
