Allowance Events Headline The Friday and Saturday Night Los Alamitos Action

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MAY 14, 2021—Manuel Alvarez’s Gotta Corona Jess, who was ridden to victory by the returning Jesus Rios Ayala in her last start, will look to make it two wins in a row when she joins a group of 3-year-olds in the featured 330-yard, $13,200 allowance on Friday.

The filly by leading sire Apollitical Jess will face some very difficult foes, including recent allowance runner-up Makalerina as well as Apollitical Honey, who has finished third or better in six of nine career starts. Martha Wells’ Makalerina has run fourth in a couple of 110-yard stakes races this year, but she looked good when finishing second to La Pacifica Handicap runner Powerline Road in an allowance event on February 28.

Meanwhile, Baldomero Aguilar’s Apollitical Honey earned his maiden win two races ago but will enter this event after a lackluster seventh at this level. Ed Allred’s In Deep Thought has run two of her best races in her last two outings and will have the services of Victor Salazar, who is the track’s hottest riders right now.

On Saturday, the main grandstand, mezzanine, and the Vessels Club at Los Alamitos will both be open at 7 a.m. for simulcasting of the daytime thoroughbred racing action on Preakness Stakes Day. Burgart’s will open at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

During the nighttime action, Les and Kim Sweeting’s BF Outfoosed, who has qualified to four major stakes races at Los Alamitos over the past year, will headline the featured $13,300 allowance main event. Eight-races are on tap with first post set for approximately 6:40 p.m. In the featured allowance race, four-time stakes qualifier BF Outfoosed enters the 350-yard event after posting the best stakes placing of his career when running third in the Grade 3, El Primero Del Año Derby on March 29.

The Utah-bred gelding by champion sire Foose left the gate sharply at the start of the El Primero and fought for a top spot the entire way until the longshot Favorite Colossus came flying from the far outside post to win the race in an upset. It was still a strong showing for BF Outfoosed, who also looked good when winning his derby trial outing on March 7. He has also qualified to the Grade 1 Ed Burke Million, Grade 2 PCQHRA Breeders, and Governor’s Cup futurities during his career.

Dont Ride The Slide, Fly The Coup and Watch Over Bella, who respectively finished fourth, fifth and ninth in the El Primero final, all return to face BF Outfoosed again in this race. Fly The Coup and Watch Over Bella also chased BF Outfoosed in their derby trials.

Recent allowance winner Sweet Dalila, From Above, who was second against allowance foes in his last start, and Flight Queen will also race.
