Apollitical Pence Faces Tough Field in April 2 Mr Jet Moore Stakes at Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 28, 2020—Apollitical Pence will be going for his second stakes win in a row this Remington Park season when he goes to the starting gate Thursday, April 2 in the $59,000 Mr Jet Moore Stakes. However, he will have some stiff competition in the eight-horse field.

The restricted Grade 2, 350-yard race for Oklahoma-bred American Quarter Horses that are 3-years-old and older will also feature Watah Flash, who ran a respectable second in last year’s $319,975 Remington Park Derby on April 20. Apollitical Pence also will face stablemate Sam Crow, who won this race in 2017.

Trainer Blane Wood got downright serious about winning this stakes, entering four of the eight horses in the race. He has entered Apollitical Pence, Sam Crow, Tough to Bee and Uptown Dynasty. John Stinebaugh conditions Watah Flash.

Apollitical Pence is a 4-year-old gelded son of Apollitical Jess, out of the Tres Seis mare Send City, won the $68,000 Mighty Deck Three Stakes on March 6, Opening Night, at 250 yards. He has an amazing record at Remington Park, winning four-of-five starts and finishing third in the other race. This horse also ran a peak race in winning the $367,750 Heritage Place Derby on the final day of the season, June 1, last year.

For his career, Apollitical Pence has started 18 times with eight wins, three seconds and three thirds for $656,745 in his lifetime bankroll. Jockey Ricky Ramirez gets the return call on Apollitical Pence, owned by Dunn Ranch and Valeriano Racing Stables LLC. He was bred byDunn Ranch of Wynnewood, Okla., and Womack Cavender Farms. Apollitical Pence has been tabbed as the morning-line favorite at 7-5 odds.

Watah Flash ran second to Apocalyptical Jess in last year’s Remington Park Derby and has run first or second in five of seven starts at Remington Park. His lifetime running line is 17 starts, three wins, five seconds, and two thirds for $149,697 in earnings.

He will be ridden again by Raul Valenzuela who was aboard for a third-place finish in an allowance race on March 15, finishing a neck behind the winner. He was disqualified to fourth in that effort, causing interference late in the stretch. Watah Flash is owned by Lane and Sons Cattle Company and was bred by Steve Holt.

The top earner in the race will be Sam Crow, who won the Mr Jet Moore Stakes here in 2017 when he was 5 years old. The gray gelded son of Valiant Hero, out of the Chicks Beduino mare Bourbonstreetchick, won this race by three-quarters of a length and is the only millionaire in the race.

He has won or run second in 18-of-25 tries. His win in the 2017 edition of this race was his only win at Remington Park in six career starts in Oklahoma City. He ran second in the other five efforts. He was laid off for almost two years from September 2017 to August 2019. Sam Crow is owned by Valeriano Racing Stables and was bred by Paris Wixon.
