72 To Race In Trials To The $1,072,850 Golden State Million Futurity On Sunday At Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—OCTOBER 18, 2019—Seventy-two talented 2-year-old Quarter Horses have been entered to race during a big night of trials to the Grade 1, $1,072,850 Golden State Million Futurity to be held on Sunday night.

A total of 10 races will be held on Sunday with nine of those races being trials to the meet's second of three futurities featuring a million dollar purse. First post time will be at approximately 5:15 p.m. (PDT).

The hopefuls include Parsons Ranch’s Geothermal, the runner-up in the Ed Burke Million Futurity on June 23, plus Rosenthal Ranch’s Runforyourlife and Link Newcomb’s Cattail Cove, the second and third place finishers in the Governor’s Cup Futurity on July 27. The horses with the 10 fastest times in the 400-yard will advance to the Golden State Million final to be held at Los Alamitos on Sunday, November 3.

The Golden State Million trials will start in race number two with an intriguing field led by the red-hot Up And Atem, who has looked amazing in his last two starts, as he faces New Mexico invaders Southern Wagon and Kiss Thru The Fire. Dunn Ranch's Southern Wagon won a trial to the Rainbow Futurity at Ruidoso Downs and most recently posted a 3/4 length allowance victory at Los Alamitos. Gentry Farms' Kiss Thru Fire ran in the $1 million Ruidoso Futurity earlier this season and in his last New Mexico start he finished second to the Grade 1 stakes winner Uncle D in the All American Juvenile.

The next trial will be highlighted by EG High Desert Farms' Forgot The Rose, who posted a couple of daylight wins this season. The Corona Cartel gelding Budderlicous and the Favorite Cartel colt Pesky will square off in trial number three. The two talented juveniles won their last starts impressively and for Pesky that victory came in his career debut. With that racing experience, Pesky could blossom from post three with Jairo Rangel in the irons.

The next trial will be headed by two-time futurity finalist Cartel Jess Rockin, while the fifth trial will feature Corona Chick Handicap winner A Mere Felix.

MRB Racing LLC's Fantsy First Down won his Ruidoso Futurity trial and qualified to the $100,000 consolation stakes for that race. He's finished out of the money in his three starts since that trial win, but could be a big factor in race number seven, while taking on Kindergarten finalist Chickititas Favorite.

Geothermal, Cattail Cove, and Javelina Cantina, three futurity finalists at this meet, will get together in the next trial. Parsons Ranch's Geothermal won her Ed Burke trial earlier this year and then returned to finish third in the million-dollar final to Flokie. Dr. Steve Burns' Javelina Cantina also qualified to the Ed Burke, while Cattail Cove was only a head behind Runforyourlife for second place in the Govenor's Cup Futurity. This should be one of the best trials of the night.

Allred's Circle City and Rosenthal Ranch's Runforyourlife are among the most exciting 2-year-olds in these trials. The Favorite Cartel gelding Circle City won his last race by 3/4 lengths and now stars in trial number eight (race nine), while Runforyourlife, a full brother to Grade 1 winner Powerful Favorite, heads the final trial, which also features the good looking newcomer A Lucky Ladies Man.
