RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—MAY 29, 2017—Gary Hartstack’s Daddys Blushing takes on New Mexico-bred competition after beating open company in the Sam Houston Juvenile when he starts in the sixth of 12 350-yard trials to the $392,255 Mountain Top New Mexico-Bred Quarter Horse Futurity on Friday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.

First post time is 1 p.m. There is always free parking and free general admission at Ruidoso Downs.

The horses with the 10-fastest times advance to the Mountain Top Futurity on June 17.

Daddys Blushing may have found the perfect spot in the Mountain Top Futurity after winning his first two starts against open company at Sam Houston Race Park. The son of Big Daddy Cartel impressed in his first start when he drew out to a three-quarter-length win in his Sam Houston Futurity trial.

The Jackie Riddle-trained gelding came back in the Sam Houston Juvenile and won by a game neck in :16.843 for the 330 yards.

A $14,000 Ruidoso sale purchase, Daddys Blushing starts from the fifth post position with Francisco Calderon aboard.

A pair of supplemental nominees — Moneys A Maker and Flash Moonfirst — should be dangerous during the afternoon’s qualifying. Their connections each paid $15,000 to enter the trials.

Enrique Barrera’s Moneys A Maker comes off a game win in the $140,000 New Mexican Spring Futurity for trainer Cynthia Gonzalez. The Sixes Royal-sired gelding went to the lead and prevailed by a neck in a sharp :15.202 for the 300 yards.

Moneys A Maker made his debut in a Sunland Park maiden race and was second by a narrow nose. The $4,000 Ruidoso yearling purchase came right back in his Spring Futurity trial to win by a nose and earn his place in the Juvenile.

Mauro Salcedo will ride Moneys A Maker from the inside post position in the 11th trial.

David Valdez’s Flash Moonfire, a $27,000 Ruidoso yearling purchase, raced to a fourth-place finish in the New Mexican Spring Futurity. The gelded son of First Moonflash from the Juan Esquivel stable earned his spot in the Spring Futurity finals with a dominating two-and-one-half-length win in his trial. He was clocked in :15.244.

Flash Moonfire starts from the sixth post position in the second trial with Oscar Cordova aboard.
