PHOENIX, AZ—NOVEMBER 30, 2016—Ugo de la Torre’s La China Maluca, a stakes winner during the current Turf Paradise meet, is one of 10 3-year-olds entered back in Sunday’s 400-yard, $40,802 AQRA Turf Paradise Open Derby.
A homebred gray daughter of One Sweet Jess trained by Gilberto Hernandez, La China Maluca has won two of his three outs at Turf Paradise this fall, including the October 30, 350-yard Desert Classic Derby. The filly drew post 5 and will be ridden by Martin Arriaga.
Fastest qualifier May Be Fantastic Sa is coming off of a dominating 3 1/2-length win in first of two trials on November 19. The Fantastic Corona Jr colt drew post 6 and will be ridden by Martin Osuna for owner Orlando Guerrero and trainer Ubaldo Guerrero.
