OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 25, 2016—A total of eight Oklahoma-bred sprinters has been entered in the 400-yard, $100,000 Sooner State Stakes (RG1), one of five stakes races scheduled for Remington Park on Sunday.

Michael C. Teel’s AJs High, a homebred 4-year-old Apollitical Jess gelding trained by Charley Hunt, will be seeking his third stakes victory of the meet in the Sooner State. AJs High is coming off of a half-length win in the 350-yard, $70,000 Mr Jet Moore Stakes (R) for state-breds on April 7.

AJs High drew post 6 and will be ridden by Stormy Smith. The gelding’s seven foes include Terry Baber’s Sam Crow, a 4-year-old gray son of Valiant Hero who ran second to AJs High in the Mr Jet Moore and second to Win Rabbits Fly in the 250-yard, $70,000 Mighty Deck Three Stakes (R) on March 13.

Raul Ramirez Jr. will ride Sam Crow for trainer Trey Wood from post 3.

Easy Date Stakes

Cartels Candy Cat will attempt to keep her perfect season record intact in Sunday’s 350-yard, $70,000 Easy Date Stakes (R) for Oklahoma-bred distaffers.

Trained by Clint Crawford for PV Quarter Horse Farms of Ratliff City, Oklahoma, Cartels Candy Cat is a homebred 4-year-old daughter of Red Storm Cat. The mare has won both of her outs at Remington this season, including the 350-yard, $50,000 Decketta Stakes (G3) on April 2.

Cartels Candy Cat drew post 7 and will be ridden by Jose Montoya.

FL Lady Bug Stakes

Stakes winners Senator Teller and Dicecapades are among the 10 Oklahoma-bred juveniles entered in Sunday’s 330-yard, $70,000 FL Lady Bug Stakes (R).

A brown daughter of Prospect To The Top trained by Gerry McLean for owner Terry McLean, Dicecapades has won both of her outs, including the April 23, 330-yard Laico Bird Stakes (R), and she has earned $52,618. The filly drew post 6 and will be ridden by James Flores.

Senator Teller races for Alvaro Ibarra Jr. from the barn of trainer Javier Noel Contreras. The Louisiana Senator colt will be making his first start since March 26, when he earned a wire-to-wire, three-quarter length victory in the 300-yard, $50,000 Oklahoma Juvenile Invitational Stakes.

Also, Sunday’s 400-yard, $70,000 Boyd Morris Memorial Stakes (R) has drawn a full field of 10 aged state-bred sprinters, including Alexia Mehrle’s Specials Jess, a 4-year-old son of Spit Curl Jess trained by Kasey Willis. Specials Jess will be stretching out in distance off of his fourth-place finish, a half of a length behind winner AJs High, in the 350-yard, $70,000 Mr Jet Moore Stakes (R) on April 7.

Nancy Powell’s Regard With Respect, a homebred Chicks Regard gelding trained by Guillermo Valdivia, is one of 10 Oklahoma-bred sophomores entered in the 350-yard, $50,000 Jack Brooks Stakes (R). Regard With Respect has won three of eight starts and has banked $488,822, and his resume includes a victory in last year’s Remington Park Futurity (RG2).
